Last time I heard Bryston was in my system with a pair of 7B SSTs comparing them to the 501s. I had Dynaudio 72 SE speakers back then. Bryston had more slam down low, McIntosh bass was more musical and less dry. Bryston had more top end sparkle, 501s sounded less airy. Mids were fuller and more liquid with 501s, Bryston sounded leaner but not a huge difference. I prefered the 501s overall for musicality, others may prefer Bryston for more accuracy. Wrong partnering speakers with Bryston may make them sound lean and sterile.

Volks.......Welcome to Audio Aficionado. Glad you discovered us.

I am interested in your impressions of the Bryston BCD-1 CD player, so keep us informed. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to break-in, and hit its stride.

Too bad you did not get it before you were snowed in.

Volks. Welcome

Volks.......Does it look like you'll be able to make it to the dealer to pick up the Bryston BCD-1 tomorrow? I am looking forward to your review of it's performance, both right out of the box, and after it is broken-in. This will make a very nice all Bryston system. We want to hear about it. Keep us posted.

Default Bcd-1

Finally got my BCD-1 opened/installed and gleefully listening to it ..First impressions?....DYNAMIC!!!!!!...Sweet Jesus.....the BCD-1 replaced a Grant Fidelity tube CDP........i cannot believe how much the two sound so different! The sound is so very, very "Open/Forward"......where as the Grant Fidelity was very laid back(to much so)......its almost as if i had mud in my ears and a Doctor cleaned them out lol.I am blown away.......i cant get over the sound.....wow!......i just....amazing!.....I was not expecting such a positive difference....i am so impressed

Volks.......This is really good to hear. Glad the Bryston BCD-1 finally made into your system. Give it a hundred hours or so, then start a new thread here in the Bryston Forum, and give us a review. Is yours silver or black?

Am a big fan of the 2B-LP, which, against Bryston's recommendations, used as monobloc amps powering 4-ohm speakers. Did so successfully for ten years without a single hint of a problem. Even when occasionally trying to blow-up my ear drums and making the overloading lamps flicker. Absolutely one of my favorite solid-state amps. While the first one was purchased new, the second one was purchased used. Sent to Bryston in VT for a check-up. Placed with no problem and Bryston returned to me at no cost. Cannot ask for more.

I'm a Mc guy and am considering moving some of my lineup to Bryston considering I have the Eb1's from PMC and a theatre room with all PMC. To this point, I've owned mostly Mc stuff (new generation) but their gear is becoming unaffordable and not in keeping with the pace of technology. I love their look and build (and warm, inviting sound) but need to read into Bryston a bit more, and audition some of their amps.
