20 Year Warranty and Transferable

I don't know why I hadn't noticed it before. I have been impressed with Bryston's 20 year warranty on their top line amplifiers, who wouldn't be, but for some reason I hadn't paid attention that this remarkable warranty commitment is TRANSFERABLE. Talk about a true benefit to both the original owner, and purchasers of used Bryston gear. When an original owner is selling a piece of Bryston gear, he has the added incentive of the remainder of the warranty period to pass on to the new owner. This is a fine way to help maintain market value, and interest in the Bryston line up. A second, or even third owner can feel comfortable purchasing a Bryston amplifier, knowing Bryston is as commited to his or her satisfaction as they were to the original owner. This is a big deal.

Is anyone at McIntosh listening?

Dan...I agree completely, and have wondered why McIntosh hasn't followed suit. With Mac's reputation for reliability and committment, I see no reason why they couldn't follow suit, or at least do better than a 3 year warranty!

Bryston is putting their money where their mouth is. A commitment is not just words to create an illusion of customer care, but a soild action plan to insure it. Looks to me like Bryston has a much greater "commitment" to their customers than McIntosh, and that is coming from a hard core McNut, as you all know.

I have a friend who loves the Bryston monoblocks in his studio. Bryston has taken very good care of them and him.

Could this have something to do with McIntosh's product line being more diverse than Bryston's? Even if so, the warranties could be applied differently to different types of products (say, 20 years for amplifiers , 10 years for CD players, etc.)

One does have to admit, a 20 year transferrable warranty is unprecedented. But, it does speak volumes about the company's commitment and confidence in their product.

Bryston's big amplifiers come out of their shipping cartons, get placed on a stand or shelf, and rarely get touched again. There are no moving parts to wear out, just active electronic components doing their thing. A 20 year commitment says this product is built from premium parts, and designed to last a lifetime.

A pair of Bryston 28B SST² mono block 1000 watt amplifiers, with a 20 year warranty to work perfect, is a serious statement of customer support, and transferable, too. That is a BIG deal. The same 20 year transferable warranty also applies to their new BP26 series preamps. That's a true commitment.




Bryston has a different length warranty period on other products. As an example their new BCD-1 CD player has a three year warranty. I find that acceptable considering the wear and tear of moving parts and the constant human interface during its useful life.




The new Bryston BDA-1 DAC comes with a five year warranty commitment.




I haven't pointed out this great customer commitment by Bryston as an attempt to disrespect any other manufacturers, only to point out what a fine company Bryston is, and what enduring components they manufacture.

Although I haven't auditioned any Bryston gear at length, about 20 or so years ago a friend of mine brought over a Bryston model 4B amp of that era, and we we installed it in my system for the afternoon. I was impressed by its sound. It seemed more refined and detailed, with better definition and clarity than the amplifier I was using at that time-a Hafler DH-500A. I really didn't want him to take it home...

Hafler's products were no slouch either; I bought the DH-500A in 1983, and today it is still in use, powering the 18 inch JBL subwoofer in my Florida Room/studio. In those nearly 27 years, the only service needed has been to replace the lighted rocker power switch, and to clean out the amplifier's forced air cooling system periodically.

Back on topic...Bryson gear is very fine indeed. I looked over one of the amps recently at my local dealer...what a beauty!
