Please keep us up to date on your observations as it burns-in and comes on full song.
Happily it didn't chase me out of the room, but I am not going to draw any conclusions for another week at least. That said I am already hearing musical details and positive sonic properties in recordings that have eluded me before, so it is an auspicious beginning.

That should be fine, but keep in mind that I thought I had a handle on the Bifrost's qualities by 100 hours, but I really didn't. It wasn't until 2-3 months of use every day (I would often leave it on all day while I was at work) that I got a true handle on how good it was.

An update for those curious about how this Schiit sounds.

This piece changes on a daily basis, the balance between the lows, mids and highs has continued to shift, bass is more prominent now and it feels like things are balancing and stabilizing. A bigger change is in the sense of coherence of the music- rather than hearing each voice and instrument clearly, the added dimension is the sense that the band is playing together, I am not just hearing instruments isolated in space. The context of the musical presentation is more available, whether the recording was dubbed together in a studio or recorded live with an on-the-fly stereo mix.

The other quality I began to hear last night is a sense of inner illumination of the music, the quality I always hear with live music. I am still quite pleased with the Gungnir, and as it continues to unfold I enjoy it more and more.

PS- Unit arrived last Thursday afternoon and has been powered up continually since then. I have maybe 30 hours of play time on the unit.

Default yep - dig the Gungnir!

I have had mine for a couple of weeks. Very impressed.

Compared to my Transporter and my old MSB DAC, its a very nice and obvious step up. Cleaner, yet bigger, better defined sound. Good space around the instruments. I can identify what some strange percussion instruments are made of for the first time. Piano sounds like piano. Thrilling!

I think from reading the above I will burn in some more. I probably have 125 hrs on it.

Welcome earwaxxer- I read a number of your posts and Head-Fi about the Gungnir, and I concur with what you shared here. I've been away on biz for a few days, but my last listens began to reveal an even larger and more coherent soundstage. When I get home my unit will have been powered down for a week, I'll be curious to hear how it sounds when freshly powered up, and then down the road with more break in.

to bakerman
to bakerman ie shiit gungnir pics: what is the input to far right on the back panel with the diamond shaped icon? it looks for the life of me like a cable tv connection!

anyone have comments on this gingnir vs dacmagic plus(from ca) and use of v-link 192 with either of the above dacs? is it really necessary?

my system new macmini intel i7 2.6 gHz 8gigs ram sata tb @5400 yamaha universal changer(dvd-a sacd dvd cd with analog outs via outlaw icbm) to yamaha rx v-2500 to 2.0/5.1/7.1 cambridgesoundworks towers/satellites/ cspk and model 6 surrounds)

anyone have comments on how improved sound quality soundstage clarity etc is with either of above dacs if i were to pass my hd cablebox signal(for audio,of course) through them and how do either of them improve sound from low rez streaming music like mog at 320kbps(i use mog exclusively for streaming content) thanks am new to your forums(hope i did this correctly) bobbmd

Welcome!

It can accept a toslink from your box, but 2-channel. It can also accept input from your macmini.

Does that help?

I don't have one myself but according to their website it's a BNC/SPDIF input.
