Official info about Mk2 versions of R-1 and CR-1:
TAD Reference???? ??????????TAD-R1MK2??TAD-CR1MK2????????????????TAD

Spoke with my importer today-he told me that unfortunately there were a press embargo about Mk2 versions till today. He expects R-1 Mk2 in EU somewhere in November 2012.

BTW, here is an exclusive from him- there will be a small TAD-MR1, intro December 2012 for Japan. ROW CES 2013.

Thanks for the info, can anyone translate this? Google translate is suggesting the changes to the woofer are more than just cosmetic...

Equipped with the newly developed diaphragm-power low-frequency reproduction - improvement in
TAD Reference Series
speaker system Introduces New "TAD-R1MK2" "TAD-CR1MK2"

Product NameProduct nameSuggested retail price (including tax)Sale timeSpeaker SystemReference one TAD
TAD-R1MK23,675,000 yen (Book 1)Mid-OctoberSpeaker SystemTAD Compact Reference
TAD-CR1MK21,942,500 yen (Book 1)Mid-November[Planning] intention

Technical Audio Devices Laboratories Inc. (TADL), and high-end audio "Reference Series" to stick to the creation of those that do not compromise, aimed at the highest sound quality, has introduced to the market "Evolution Series" corresponding to digital technology. In particular, since its launch, Reference Series speaker system, we have received high reputation from all over the world.
By integrating the diaphragm woofer newly developed, we will release the speaker system "TAD-R1MK2", "TAD-CR1MK2" of Reference series to improve their reproduction of the midrange from the low-frequency range for this time .
This time, including the diaphragm woofer that is domestic production of the first, along with the material on domestic production of main parts CST, such as beryllium diaphragm deposition for (Coherent Source Transducer), to complete in our own factory domestic assembly of the speaker system that, I realized the excellent quality.
Main Features

1) The woofer employs a diaphragm (Tri-Laminated Composite Cone) TLCC newly developed

The adoption of a newly developed diaphragm TLCC, improved sense of extrusion force and bass reproduction, the reproducibility of the midrange. By configuring the diaphragm is sandwiched in the aramid fiber has been used, for example, state-of-the-art aircraft, a highly rigid lightweight foamed acrylic imide, we increased the strength of the diaphragm. In addition, by laminating a new processing method separately molded aramid fiber and acrylic imide foam, taking advantage of the characteristics of the fabric have woven anisotropy, I reduce the resonance of axisymmetric mode. In addition, it is tuned to fully take advantage of the natural tone of the CST driver is composed of beryllium diaphragm.
The manufacture of our own factory in Japan with domestic production material

2) achieve superior quality

Along with the material is used for domestic production in key components such as diaphragm CST or beryllium diaphragm woofer new development, by making our own factory in Japan up to integration into the cabinet from the assembly of the speaker unit, we have achieved excellent quality .
Adopted the CST driver that achieves the ideal point source playback

3)

Broadband, adopted CST coaxial speaker driver to control the phase and directivity drive unit. By the mid-range cone, to control the directional characteristics of the tweeter, which is coaxially arranged to have the same acoustic center of the tweeter and mid-range, to match the directional characteristic and phase characteristic in crossover. We have to allow the natural sound field localization and spatial expression this way, both the directional radiation pattern which decays uniformly over the entire band and ultra-wideband regenerative capacity of 250Hz ~ 100kHz, clear and stable.
Adoption of the tweeter and mid-range beryllium diaphragm that have been modified on its own evaporation method

4)

Dome tweeter and cone midrange employs a beryllium diaphragm. By working with our own vapor deposition, enabling superior material strength and uniformity, and to achieve high-frequency attenuation characteristics of the resonance. Midrange cone 16cm aperture is adopted as a diaphragm Beririmu largest direct deposition of radiation type, we have realized a sound sense of transparency over a wide band. In addition, the shape design of the tweeter, by adopting, to control accurately the split resonance, which allows you to play ultra-wideband up to 100kHz "(Harmonized Synthetic Diaphragm Optimum Method) HSDOM" optimization technique independently by computer analysis you.
Circuit is adopted (Optimized Field Geometry Magnet Structure) OFGMS

5) woofer

In order to play correctly at all times the waveform of the sound circuit is adopted OFGMS own short voice coil type magnetic circuit, 37mm (TAD-R1MK2), to equalize the magnetic flux density between the long-gap length of 20mm (TAD-CR1MK2) You had to. Operation in a wide range of amplitude is stabilized by this, I realized the linearity high drive. Also, suspension systems, we have to ensure the high linearity by employing a proprietary edge corrugation.
6) adopt (Structurally Inert Laminated Enclosure Technology) SILENT enclosure with a high damping effect and strength

By using the enclosure material laminated structure with a combination of different materials, as well as the skeleton transverse bulkhead, and the panel robust around, taking advantage of the monocoque structure and frame, he raised his strength static and dynamic I have to maximize the damping effect while. Constitute the framework of strong birch plywood with a thickness of 21mm, enclosure is formed by laminating a plywood and CNC machined side plate was press-molded high-frequency heating. In addition, by the teardrop shape, diffraction of sound is reduced, excellent sound and strength of field representation, we are also contributing to the elimination of unwanted resonances and standing waves inside the enclosure.
Port system adopted by applying the fluid design of

7) TAD horn

To reduce wind noise by adopting excellent aerodynamics, the port system of flared, the unit will drive without stress at the time of large-amplitude input and large, we play the bass clear with good S / N.
Adopted in the CST driver (Isolation) drive technology ISO to utilize the power of accurate and precise sound

8)

The CST driver technology employs a proprietary drive ISO I cut off the transmission of mechanical vibration. By this way, there is no excitation of the enclosure by the CST driver, a secondary radiation of sound from the enclosure is reduced, only accurately convey the sound radiation from the CST Driver, precisely depict the detail of the sound.
Piano tone finish and luxurious "adoption Pomerasaperi" to the appearance of natural wood

9) enclosure

Adopted the "Pomerasaperi" natural wood (the veneer) appearance of the enclosure was subjected to piano tone finish with transparent polyester. Polished by skilled craftsman by hand one by one, I finish carefully.

From what I understand, it's really just a woofer manufacture change. Probably no big deal.

Hi KKF1,

Is the TAD MR1 that your importer mentioned a floor-standing model smaller than R1?
If so, is its size similar to but of a higher grade than Evolution-1?

Thanks!

No, TAD-MR1 is a small stand mount model that is designed for use in recording studios and small rooms(M is for Monitor).
Also, there will be a TAD-E2, a stand mount D'appolito design which can be used as central channel speaker. Intro early 2013.

KKF1, what do you intend to do now? Order the new model or stick to the MK1 at a discounted price maybe?

I got my R1 in late July/early august and no one told me, my dealer or TAD representative, there was a MK2 going to be presented 15 days later at a show... Regardless of the improvement, being big, small, or non existing, I feel They should have informed me by all means.
