have you heard the Pioneer speakers that he designed? for the money, they are very good speakers, I think they are as cheap as $150 for a pair of bookies, but those little bookies outperformed some moderately priced speakers that I have heard. I was pretty surprised, they were in a room with Polks and Klipsch at best buy and really played much better then both their towers from about 100 hz on up.

I haven't heard those yet, but I"ve read about them extensively. Andrew Jones said they were more challenging to design than the TADs because of the cost-constraints. They're supposed to be pretty amazing for the money, though.

I haven't been listening to anything this evening but the 24/192Khz HDTracks download of Ella's Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie through my Bifrost DAC.

Amazing.

Astonishing voice.

I could not resist and bought a pair knowing Andrew Jones designed them. The moment I heard them I knew when my CR-1's arrived, I'd be in for a treat. Boy was I correct. For $180 delivered, they blew away many, many other speakers I've heard.

For $150(or $180), they are very nice little speakers. They don't have much low end bass, or it could have been the room/electronics, but if you had those bookies and a Hsu STF-1, with say an Onkyo 609 AVR and a NAD C515BEE CD player, you would have a very good musical setup for $1k. My sales rep wants a small 2-ch/HT setup, and I told him about this combo and thought it would do him very well. He is set on some Dali Lektor 2s, which I like a little more, due to the bass performance and a slightly more detailed mid-range, but the Pioneers don't get up much in terms of upper mids and highs, for their price, they compete with the 3x the price Dalis.

Master Lu, you may want to move this thread to the new TAD forum you have, just a thought.

Joost,

I am floored how good the CR-1's sound. I can't wait until my mono 911mk3 arrive. My Dartzeel NHB-108 is freaking awesome! Can it get any better?

I don't think so. Well, IMHO, it's going to be really tough to get better than where you are now, anyway. You've got, IMO, quite possibly the finest sounding speakers I've ever heard, and one of the finest amps ever made. The only thing I think you personally can do now to improve things is to get a GAT preamp.

So, you're off the merry-go-round as far as speakers go.

As for the amps, will the 911 monos better the Dart? I don't know...

Different yes, but better in absolute terms may be a tougher call.

The only thing I would do that you're not presently considering is add a first-class turntable.

Stephen,
Don't you think that the Dart preamp could be a better match than the GAT with the NHB ?
