Default Schiit Lyr headphone amp............

AA'ers
I just read about this amp and found out it uses tubes. Does anyone have any experience with it??

Inquiring minds want to know as it is reasonably priced.

I am using it to drive HiFiMan HE-500s. I have tube rolled and am using a matched pair of Siemens E288CC tubes in it. 'Phones are new, so not burned in yet, but sound quality is very good. Whether this is down to amp or 'phones I do not know...

I'm also using it to drive HiFiMan HE-500s (together with a Schitt Bifrost - not yet upgraded). I haven't rolled the tubes. I'm really pleased with the build quality and I think the sound is fantastic - but I attribute that to the whole headphone system I've put together (phones/amp/dac) since I really didn't have an opportunity to test individual pieces against other pieces. All that being said, I still greatly prefer my main system / loudspeakers since I'm not a huge fan of headphones in the first place.

Yes, you are right. It's the whole headphone system that makes the noise we hear!

I tried the HiFiMan EF-5 amp as well as the Schiit Lyr with HE-500s before buying anything. I much preferred the Lyr, so bought one and then waited for a deal on the 'phones.

Further information on my setup, is that it is sourced by either turntable etc. or SACD/CD player from the tape output on my amplifier. I have not yet plunged into computer file replay, so don't have a DAC.

Its a very good amp for the money but you will need to get decent tubes for it to get the best out of it.

apparently designed with difficult to drive cans in mind.

Best tubes I found were the Amperex 7308 JAN PQ White Label, 1966, Gold pins, very very good indeed!

hope this helps.

I am using a matched pair of Siemens E288CC tubes in it. Jason Stoddard of Schiit said they should be spectacular!
