I know I am excited. I will let everyone know how it sounds when I get my kxr and mxr back with the upgrades.

For the record, the price of the upgrade is the difference between what was paid for the MX-R, KX-R or VX-R when it was purchased new and the current price of the same 'Twenty' model.

In other words, if you paid 12,000 Quatloos for your MX-Rs when you bought them new and the MX-R Twenty costs 20,000 Quatloos, you pay 8,000 Quatloos for the upgrade.

Apparently, it's a major update, and should cost a whole stack of Quatloos, so everyone wins.

Was the VX-R getting the Diamond update too? Only aware of the KXR and MXR getting updates - although it would make sense for the VXR to get updated as well...

I believe so, although I also think the roll-out of upgrades applies to the mono amps and the preamp first. There might even be a tighter order of updates depending on interest. When Naim instigated its DR update to power supplies, it was inundated with upgrade requests and ended up with a massive waiting list. I suspect Ayre is keen not to have the same embarrassment of riches.

Your best bet... ask Ayre. The interest post-CES will have sorted out how the company plans to run these upgrades, and in which order (if any) is best suited for user and company alike.

My plan is to buy the MX-R Twenty as a brand new purchase this year. I can imagine the upgrade wait will be pretty long, perhaps not as long as the QB-9 wait, imagine how many QB-9's were sold...

The reports from CES said $30,000/pair, and the old price was $18,500, so the upgrade for the pair would then be $11,500.

The KX-R Twenty upgrade is $9000.

Anyone hear the VX5 vs. the old MXR? Is the VX5 warmer with the new Diamond output stage?
