Mike.......Thanks. The Sony 60ES DAT machine is a very nice Digital Audio Tape recorder. I have recorded on it using the digital outputs from the MCD500, and played the output back trough the ESS DACs in the MCD500. The playback is virtually identical to the MCD500 output. Dead silence, amazing dynamics, smooth from top to bottom. DAT is a great recording medium. It is a shame it never really caught on other than in professional recording.

I purchased this Nakamichi CR-7A new in 1989. Truly and amazing casette recorder. I had custom walnut side panels made for it. I got an offer I couldn't refuse, and sold it about two years ago.

Now we know cassette was not the highest quality recording and reproduction medium, though those Nakamichi machines were damn fine...I had lusted after these years ago and finally picked two up on Ebay a few years ago (these pics are of the same unit).

I liked the integrated mixer and panpots. Hmm they need some work though, new belts. I would like to find a 2250B, 2275 or....2325 to complement these for a vintage system.

Again, sorry for the image quality.

John.......Now that's going back about 40 years. The Marantz Model 5420 was one of the earliest cassette machines to incorporate Dolby noise reduction. That was back before Dolby even had Dolby A, B, C and HX. It was just known as Dolby NR.

Yes, and how about the tape types? "Normal, Chrome (Chromium Dioxide), and FerriChrome" instead of Type I, II and III ?
