Thanks everyone for sharing, it's really appreciated. You've given me a lot to think about and I will keep you up to date. I spoke to my dealer yesterday and he said McIntosh is forecasting an early April factory run. I hope they are accurate on deliveries.

Congratulations Doug. This component is pretty special for a few reasons. Not only is this a very high end preamp from Mcintosh with all the features you'll ever need but it also has the upgradeable dac module. Whether intentional or not this stroke of thinking by McIntosh is pure genius because not only has Mcintosh never made a tube dac before but this dac is able to be updated in the future. Right now they have a very premium quad balanced ESS chip onboard but future iterations may have Rohm semiconductor under consideration. Rohm dac is the one chosen for the Luxman flagship sacd player and has quite a few people excited about its potential if used by great designer. Speaking of sacd player , you have option of pairing this component with Mct500 from Mcintosh and have a world class SACD transport/dac combo with a dac that will never go out of date. All of this features and future flexibility makes the C2700 a homerun from Mcintosh.

Since I had some idle time waiting for the C2700 I thought I would create a wire diagram (yes I'm an engineer ) for the new setup. Some questions that I still have are:

You say 8+ years before replacing the tubes. Do you have an idea about the total listening hours this makes? Tx, Kurt |

Passthru wiring is correct. 1/8" stereo cable. You'll have to program the C 2700 to use unbalanced input #2 as the passthru input. Power Triggers to 601's are correct. 1/8" stereo cable. I have a love-hate relationship with my Logitech. Yes, you can control it - you may have to try several different McIntosh models and manually capture some of the IR codes. Sub won't work for 2 channel. If the sub has multiple inputs then you could use one of the unused C 2700 outputs to drive it, making sure you turn off that feed when using the preamp in passthru. Or, if your sub has speaker level inputs then you can hook it up (with great care!) to the 601's. You would also end up having to run a separate LFE signal to the sub from the AVR or run the mains as large and run LFE into them. Depending on the vintage of your HT receiver, you could run the OppO 7.1 channel analog into the HT receiver. For example my McIntosh MX 151 won't decode the latest audio formats, but the OppO will, so I use the 7.1 channel analog connection.

It’s good to hear the Logitech should still work. I’ve had great luck with the Logitech up to this point. It’s a wife saver if you know what I mean. It’s unfortunate Logitech has decided to drop its remote line. I thought about picking an extra one up just in case but I’m not sure if they will continue with the web interface. The sub area is going to require some investigating work on my part. I have a velodyne minivee10 which has line-level AND speaker-level connects but I want to be positive about the wiring before I try it. The last thing I want is to damage pre-amp, amps or speakers. If you don’t mind I might be asking you more about the sub later. Eventually I want to move up to a pair of Rel subs. One step at a time. When I first got my OppO I ran 5.1 analog with hdmi straight to TV because my older av receiver couldn’t handle the latest codes but the sr7012 does all that I need.

Sub integration with HT and 2 channel can be a real head-scratcher.
You should be able to run the subs on the speaker level inputs and an LFE low level input at the same time. Do not connect the sub speaker (-) terminals to the MC 601 speaker (-) terminals. Leave them float or connect them to a ground screw on the MC 601. The 601’s are balanced so the speaker (-) terminals are not at ground. Other than that somewhat odd hookup scenario you should be good to go. I find that my SF Amati Futura speakers do not need any bass reinforcement for 2- channel so the sub is only connected to the Pre/Pro and active when we watch movies.

Finally after 12 years of 5+ hours per day use of my Gold Lions tubes in my McIntosh C2300 had to be replaced! What prompted to even think about replacing them was that my system started to sound "blah"! I can't think of any other description to explain it. I purchased two set of tubes for the preamp. Gold Lions where one set and the other was Tung-Sol matched pairs. I installed the Gold Lions first and never looked backed. Since the Tung-Sol where never used so I swapped them into the C2300. Interesting after about 20 hours of break in time. The Tung-Sol have a much more neutral but an open sound, where the Lions were bright but an open sound. I'm not saying one is better than the other just different. The subs are definitely more pronounce than I ever heard before. I'll order another set of Gold Lions and make another swap in 2031!

I'll also vote for the Gold Lions...I bought a different pair of tubes to swap in on the line stage just for kicks, I can't remember what kind, JJ's I think. My other advice would be to stay off AA until the 2700 arrives as we love spending other peoples money and next thing you know you'll be out another 10k
