The Ortofon OM40 on my Dual 701 was getting 'tired' (many hours) so I did a fair bit of shopping around. I was never that impressed with the Ortofon 2M Black I owned and have always missed the AT150MXL I sold a few years ago, so decided to try one of AT's better MM carts as the AT150 series was discontinued about the time I sold mine. The VM740ML is a nude MicroLine stylus and sounds great 'right outta da box'. If the two more expensive models with Shibata & Special Line Contact stylus are better they must be something. Nice thing about that is these styli will fit the 740ML body should I feel like upgrading at some point.
I do wonder if that warning on the box (can cause cancer and reproductive harm) means I should not eat the box or the cartridge?  The VM740ML in action.

Umm...I think this is now the 16th MC cartridge in my collection? Like its predecessor the Ortofon Windfeld MC, I experienced some issues with top-end aggressiveness on this Ti revision in a Fidelity Research FR64fx arm. However, after balancing that away with more warm NOS 6SN7 tubes in my VAC 200iQ amps...WOW!!
