I would choose the server without hesitation but paired with a great dac.
I do not spin anymore cd since I got my server solution. The Squeezebox Touch in the MDA1000 is as good if not better than my Linn Ikemi cd drive ( I tried many high end drives and no one was better than the Linn ! ) and I get all the advantages of a music server : music on the fingertips of an ipad, played in less than 1 second on my system. I 'm finally rediscovering all the hidden treasures that were sleeping for years in my bookshelves. The GUI of the Sooloos is probably the best on the market, so if it appeals to you, go for it. But you would have to use it with a high end dac to match your high end amps. If Burmester makes one, that would be ideal. Spinning a cd is now an absurdity for me. Spinning a LP makes sense because you get a different sound than digital. I could consider a better dac than the MDA1000 (although I don't see the need of it), but no more cd player for me. That's the main reason why the MCD1100 don't appeal to me. I don't need a cd player so why paying for it ? I'm waiting for the MDA1100.....

Without doubt, there is no better sound than what comes from a Burmester X-Amp2, belt drive CDP, IMHO. But please, do not take my word for it, just try one, that is all I ask. I am not gay, so I cannot ask Dieter to marry me.

I seem to remember between 20 and 30k
Much as I love Burmester, unless the interface is killer (I.E. Way better than Sooloos) I'm not so sure... But I'm sure it will sound awesome. I've never heard anything yet from Burmester that wasn't... |
