According to the review, it is suppose to make the treble better, or not sibilant, something like that. That would really help the HD800.

Just had my first tube arch, one of my NOS JAN RCA 6v6.
It was not "ST shaped", but to be safe I still used a 5Y3 with them. Using the same 5Y3 + 6SN7, subbing the 6v6 for a pair of KT88, no issues. This makes me think the problem is the 6v6 itself, makes sense since it's the tube that arched. That was my only 6v6 pair, lame. Anybody have recommendations? I'll be picking up another set sometime soon. |

The 6v6 that arched came from Brent Jesse I've bought so many tubes, I forgot I had both JJ and TAD 6v6 pairs... Using the JJ now, they sound good. I was looking at some Bednix 6v6, I know people here have used those. I'm not sure if I can justify $200, that's the cheapest pair I could find. I also saw some Bednix 5Y3, and a 6SN7, I was thinking I could have a full Bendix kit... but I have to keep reminding myself I've spent more on tubes now than the amp cost I really just need to not buy more tubes |

pstrisik, Musica Amantem, sorry but the answer to that question is above my paygrade you would have to ask Dennis (radioman731) about cost of upgrades, but (depending on your circuit) it doesn't involve many parts (2 diodes, 2 resistors) posting a pic of the inside of your amp would help to
determine what you need for this upgrade. pstrisik, you should be able to have this upgrade done too (though it may involve a few more small parts) I thought I had a picture of the inside of your amp, I'm checking, but definitely contact Dennis, we would love to hear it (well burned in amps are a treat for a builder) These amps are keepers that can evolve over time and as Dennis continues to take it higher you won't be left behind. |

My new Caps arrived, excitedly I opened my 6V6 amp for the first time..... Unfortunately if I had opened it previously I wouldn't of wasted my money.... I ordered 0.22uf Jupiter copper foil caps and Rel Cap Teflon 0.022uf for bypass caps. Turns out my amp has 0.01uf Auricaps in place.... I dont know why I thought I needed 0.22uf.... Oh well. I closed her up and grabbed the LP-2, I performed a little 1.5uf Audyn Copper Max bypass surgery with the 0.22uf Jupiter copper foils and stitched her back up.
Initial listening is positive. The top end is lively and exciting. A lot more texture to the strings and brass. Maybe a little more "Shrill" at times. Being that these caps are brand new I believe they will smooth out. Soundstage is very similar with maybe a little more depth due to the forward mids and top end being emphasized. I will let these settle in before I complete the triple bypass with the 0.022uf Rel cap Teflon..... I will however be left with a pair of unused 0.1uf Rel Cap teflons I had originally ordered to bypass the Audyn Copper Max's with.... I guess that leaves even more cap rolling in the future.... Kicking myself for not double checking the caps in the first place, such is life.... |

You can find ST 6V6G's, Zenith, Philco et al on the auction site for little $ too. They are rebranded RCA' or Sylvania's. Swedish 6V6GT 5S2D and RFT 6V6GT's are excellent too but expensive if you can find them. |
