There is that famous snap oversteer of a 911 when it decides to bite you. The rear engine pendulum... It’s at 4:25 mark in the video

That corner looks to be particularly difficult, especially to those who haven’t been trained on it.

If you notice, it is a classic ‘off camber’ turn which is also going down hill. Both of those dynamics are working against the basic balance of the car.

If a driver doesn’t know that and assumes it is just a left turn, they are screwed if going anywhere near the speed of a ‘normal’ left turn...

That turn would get my full and undivided attention before I ever started my car.

The video in the rain is simply the same old same old on steroids. The rear of the car gets light and voila, no traction and the rear end takes over.

Over 100 various turns, some blind, elevation changes, off-camber, 12.9 miles of high speed driving. What could possibly go wrong?

For sure. Anyone with a brain would however, do test drives beforehand or if not, drive at 5/10ths the first time.

Chances are those that bought it in that turn had never driven that car on the ‘ring before.

If not, they were idiots.

There are some really talented drivers on it and some drivers that have no clue. It’s a playground for all. Pay your lap fee and go. If you damage the Armco rails, you pay. If your damage closes the track for some time, you pay. If you die, your relatives pay. German efficiency.

I remember taking 5 days to learn the Grand East course at VIR which was only about 4.2 miles with ~25 turns.

I suspect the ‘ring would take much longer before I would be comfortable driving near the limit - then again, I am not a professional.

I often practiced with a dedicated sim setup at home, racing chair, wheel, pedals, shifter, with all the famous tracks and cars. Photorealistic stuff. I memorized most American tracks down after a few hundred laps each. The Ring is a different story. It takes enormous concentration. Sure, some sections are easy to remember but with over 100 turns, it takes a lot of time and focus to learn that track. It is one of the most difficult tracks ever.
