No 'outlet', but plenty of desire for one -
Hey Mark -
There's a market - of that I'm reasonably confident. There are likely to be many (potential) domestic buyers here, who would jump at the chance for these 're-issues' of JBL professional lore. This (in my view) is an oversight, typical of a Huge conglomerate, who either cannot (or will not) observe the potential for margins in an albeit small, but nonetheless profitable corner of a particular market. The problem with such shortsighted thinking, is that you never know the potential for other business of which that 'small' market might bring. In any event, onward with my kooky thoughts: - For the '4390' (I chose the '4390' designation as homage to the ~40th anniversary of the introduction of the 4350. Well, it's close enough, isn't it...?) Anyway, I envision something along the lines of this: - Either dual 1500FE (compliant nitrile/santoprene rubber surrounds), or dual 1501FE (corrugated cloth w/butyl rubber edge reinforcement surrounds) in a compartmentalized bottom-half enclosure. - The top half (owing to the success of the DD66000) would be fairly easy - both in concept and application, since much of the work has already been done. The horn itself could be fabricated from 'Sonoglass' (fiberglass), and painted black in accordance with the Studio Monitor series line. However, rather than have the horn 'stick out' as a separate entity (ala, TAD TSM-1), I would again refer to the commanding but graceful lines of the DD66000, with the 'infinite horn' that extends to the edge on both sides of the loudspeaker. Enclosure volume for the LF would likely be similar, so I think the match up would be a winner. Of course, 4Be would likely not be used, so the MF and UHF compression units would likely be of the Ti variety. If I had some experience with Maya, I'd offer up an 'artists interpretation' of this concept, but I'm sure the group's imaginative minds already have a reasonable idea of what I'm talking about. I have no doubt it would be an immediate success - for both consumer and professional use. Price point: $~30k/pair. |

Hi folks.
I am a very happy owner of the jbl 4365. Before I decide to buy these wonderful sounding speakers, I checked out k2 9800, which were for sale nearby where I live. The k2 impressed me a lot, but the sound overall was not perfect. Most likely a bad matching against the other gear, I concluded. The k2 did not hide anything under the carpet (as we say in Norway), and I could clearly hear the potential from these great speakers. As times go by with a lot of research on the net, I came over an article about jbl 4365. It seems that my local hifi pusher was also very interested in these speakers. After some intense search, he managed to get the only pair in Norway, one of a very few left in Europe, brought home to my house for serious testing. To make a long story short: these are a pair of wonderful sounding speakers.... A midrange to die for. Resolution is marvellous and the bass is tight and powerful. As the speakers share the same driver as the k2 9900, means that this is a serious speaker in many ways. I guess you have already figured out that the testing period never ended. These babies are staying and will never leave my home as long as I'm alive. 2x Mcintosh 275 feed 4365 effortlessly. I play music as never before. My listening room. |

Thanks guys
My dream speaker was the K2 9900, but since the 4365 share the same midrange driver and cost under half the price, the choice was easy. The bass goes deeper on 4365 compared to 9900. In fact so deep in my small rom, that i sold my exellent Velodyne DD 18 sub. The music is presented with a rythmic engagement as I've never heard before. Very fun and it's easy to get addicted to this kind of sound. I guess this is jbl speakers force compared to others. The speakers have been running daily for almost two months now. I'm pretty shure the 'break in' period is over. Never been closer to 'audio heaven' than just right now. When listening to music, I never stop beeing impresseed by the realism and life like presentation from 4365. The best I've heard so far. Especially voices are spooky alive in the rooom. Very fun. Well, as you understand, for time beeing there is no clouds on the sky from my point of view. Something tells me it will last for a very long time. Best 'the dancer' |

That is a score, for sure. Those are my next speaker ( and my last) if I could ever find a pair. Damn. I wish someone in the US sold these. I can only imagine your delight. I am happy with the 1400 Array/1500 sub, but if I had a pair of those...........
