And now for Amazon's pick in three classical categories as their number one best seller and most popular . . .

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,842 in Music (See Top 100 in Music)
#1 in Music > Classical > Forms & Genres > Short Forms > Nocturnes
#1 in Music > Classical > Opera & Vocal > Vocal Non-Opera > Noels
#1 in Music > Classical > Ballets & Dances > Waltzes
And it was #2 in Music > Classical > Chamber Music > Sonatas

No, I do not have it, but I do not think Amazon is doing us classical music seekers any favors in their categorization or ranking system.

We are both in a good place, and yes "shared music does sooth the soul"

Thanks for your sentiments everyone,

Checking out this 3 LP set:
Vivaldi
La Cetra Opus 9
Carl Pini, John Tunnell - Violins, Anthony Pini - Cello, Harold Lester - Harpsicord Orchestra of Accademia Monteverdiana
Denis Stevens - Conducting

Very interesting set of LP's though only a 7.5 in the sonic realm. I like the play though, and still a worthy listen!

Orpheus OR 334/335/336

Regards,
Jim

This evening:
First 45 RPM LP on the new table
Stravinsky
The Firebird Suite (1919)
Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Carlo Maria Giulini Conducting

Wonderful dynamics and play. This could be my favorite of the 45RPM Angel Sonic Series, and the new table displays it's strengths superbly!
Angel Sonic Series SS-45003

Regards,
Jim

Jim - I enjoyed some Stravinsky today also...

Here is my description from the "Top 20 Albums" thread

Quote:
Stravinsky: The Firebird, The Rite of Spring
Minnesota Orchestra, Eiji Oue

For a memorable sonic and musical experience try this Reference Recording HRx disc (DVD-R data discs contain exact, digit-for-digit copies of the original Reference Recordings 176.4 kHz / 24-bit digital masters). DVD-R discs play on Oppo machines. Another favorite Rite with an awesome bass drum is Esa-Pekka Salonen's version with the Los Angeles Philharmonic on an DG SACD.

Default Schubert: Symphony No. 9

This evening, I felt like...

Schubert: Symphony No. 9 in C major, D944 'The Great' (Disc 5 of 5)
The Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Claudio Abbado

Just a sublime interpretation of this outstanding symphony. Abbado makes details come out that I have not noticed before, particularly in the 3rd movement.

The recording is top-shelf DG.

Listening to disc 3 of the box set Brahms - The Symphonies

Brahms - Orchestral Music

I bought this set upon recommendation of Carlos and others and this is the first time I've listened to this disc of "other" Brahms Orchestral music. Upon first reflection, I love this set of music. The Symphonies are excellent and this "bonus disc" is nothing but first class.

Gewandhausorchester - Riccardo Chailly, Conductor

A Decca set of Recordings, produced in 2013

Now listening to disc 4 of 5...

Schubert: Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D759 'Unfinished'

Elegance with energy complemented by stunning playing by the COE.
