I use plain ole Nitty Gritty Pure 2. First with my Nitty Gritty and now with my Hannl. I preferred it to the Hannl liquid. works great and removes all static to boot.

Linn - the makers of the famous and still top-notch LP-12 turntable - has always been rather conservative in their recommendations regarding record cleaning.

Their full recommendations for vinyl and cd's are found at: Caring for your CDs and Vinyl

In brief, their suggested method for cleaning LP's includes the following:

It might sound simple but keeping your records clean is the easy, inexpensive method of preserving your vinyl. A quality disc cleaning solution is inexpensive and really helps protects vinyl discs. If your records do accumulate dirt or mould, clean them first with a small quantity of soap and water - using a soft cloth or wipe - then rinse, running under the water being careful to avoid getting any on the label. Dry with a soft cloth or a good paper towel. Thereafter, you should wash the record and apply an anti-static solution.

It is best to remove the water from the record before it dries out - pat it dry with a soft cotton cloth. This reduces the risk of contaminants in the water affecting the vinyl.
I personally use a VPI HW-17 cleaning machine with several complex chemical compounds - but who's to fault Linn's simple methodology?

YB-2, respectfully, I don't understand why you're reluctant to order the Spin-Clean solution. Any other commercially produced solution will cost just as much, and many most will cost more. For example, the 32 oz AIVS #15 is $10 a bottle more expensive than the Spin-Clean 32 oz. bottle. More importantly, any other solution won't work the way the Spin-Clean solution is intended to work. The Spin-Clean solution is proprietary (likely a trade secret, which means there's no patent issued on it, but it's formulation is a closely guarded secret) and no other solution on the market does specifically what it does, which is to precipitate the released contaminants, so that they don't contaminate the next record being cleaned.

Also, the 32 oz. Spin-Clean bottle will clean up to 5600 records, as you only use a single capful for an entire tankful of water. There's no other cleaning fluid I know that will clean anything close to that no. of records from a 32 oz. bottle.

So, why not just order the solution that was designed specfically for the Spin-Clean?

There's no faulting it, except there are methods that work considerably better. I used to do Linn's methodology, and even made a homemade label protector, but I've found that RCMs, either the Spin-Clean, or vacuum-type, like VPI, CA, etc. work considerably better than the Linn or soap-and-water protocol.
