I never heard the Krell Evo but I can attest these have some SERIOUS power...Incredible control and dynamics. But really, the needles were barely moving, while the Alexx was LOUD. Must have good sensitivity specs.

Honestly I would love to have a budget that fits the Alexx and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

It really is an incredible speaker. I've heard the XLF before, and it's right up there.

Marc, I really appreciate your comments and the pics. I can' say at this point I'm seriously considering purchasing an Alexx. However, I am very glad I did not purchase an XLF. I ultimately felt the speaker would just be too large (stuffed) for my A-frame room. The Alexx would be a perfect fit for me, IMO. I know that the Alexx is a superior speaker to the Maxx3. Problem for me is that I really like my Maxx3. I can't say my treble is worse than my bass or my midrange is rough etc. I just don't hear a flaw.

But the Alexx is the first really "new" big Wilson with all new drivers. The XLF has woofers that are left over from another era. The Alexx is based on WAMM technology. The higher tweeter crossover does open the door to a Be tweeter. I wonder if the WAMM will arrive with a metal dome tweeter? However, there is nothing inherently inferior to a soft dome when compared to a metal dome. I'm not at all opposed to soft domes. All in all the Alexx looks like the perfect speaker for me. If I am ever going to buy my final speaker it will be the Alexx.

This does sound like the perfect speaker for you, given your height restrictions. Not to say anything bad about the Maxx 3, but I guarantee when these plop down and the music starts, you will forget about them. This is a very refined speaker, one of the best you can buy at any price! Wilson is really on a roll lately.

Marc, A-frame rooms turn out to be excellent rooms acoustically. Especially if you have a significant flat portion in the middle as mine does. I believe it is because the extra dimensions somehow spread out the reflections. My problem with the XLF was the width and depth of its bass cabinet. My room is only a little over 15 feet wide but 40 feet long with a generous 3 feet of 8 foot ceiling in the room center. I believe Alexx would fit better in my room than even my Maxx3. I "hear" you about the Maxx3 but I really like the speaker. For me the Maxx3 is a classic big Wilson with all the old Wilson technology tweaked to the max. No question that the Alexx is the greatly superior speaker. I appreciate your insights much.

The Alexx just reeks of refinement an quality.

Yes, I followed your thread about the "struggle" you were having. First world problems to be sure! Haha

The only thing I don't like about the Alexx is the mail slot. If you look closely at the pics I posted, they used the rear port and created a special placard for the front one. That's not going to be standard from what I heard from Peter. He said they are still working out options for that plate, including cabinet colored ones.

Marc, you called the front port the "mail slot". What do you mean by that? I hope that by the time I might seriously consider an Alexx this detail will be worked out. I would have preferred a rear port. I think the front port is a frill. The vast majority will use the rear. Why? Because truth be known, folks, though they may deny it, like the most bass especially if it is of high quality. And Wilson bass is of extremely high quality.

Dan said that these have a little less finesse than the momentum, but are designed for the guy with a big room that "really really wants to rock out". Dan's words!
$39k was the price Dan was giving in his presentation.

Charles, the port ala XLF, is designed to allow the speaker's bass to be best aligned for the room in which you place it. You are correct that most rooms will likely be best with the rear port employed. However, there will be some rooms where the front position will be better. This makes Alexx an option for more rooms.
