Well, I did the A/B last night. It was done using Side 1 of my ABC (AA-1006) vs. Side 1 of the Cisco pressing. My fun task was even more fun because I just changed amps, and have not heard Aja on them. Both were given a nice Audio Intelligent #6 bath, and rinsed w/ distilled H20. I started with the ABC, as it was always the one I reached for first. What can I say, it always sounded so good. It was better than I remember, and became the highlight of my playlist last night. It was everything analog should be. WIDE open soundstage, quiet, dynamic. A nice open window, that went right to the soul. Never thought much about the evaluation, because it took me right the heck out of that mode. So after the side ended and reality set back in, I went to the Cisco. Soundstage was noticeably condensed @ much less open than the ABC. It was just as quiet, but that was a non-issue, as both were plenty quiet. Bottom line: In my setup and for my taste, there was no comparison. Just for the record, my previous spins were: Lee Morgan: The Sidewinder, and The Doors: Morrison Hotel. The Sidewinder was an early press, as was MH. The latter a first press RED label. They sounded great, but the ABC Aja was the star of the show.

AA is actually a later catalog number but both editions were mastered by Bernie Grundman (though you won't see "BG" in the inner groove area) and I can't hear much of a difference between the two.
Actually this is what I read is the order of issues :

"First...Stock # AB 1006...AB 1006 in deadwax

Second...Stock # AA 1006...AAB 1006 in deadwax (note, the "B" is scratched out on this release)

Third...Stock # AA 1006...AA 1006 in deadwax"

The first and second ABC versions are supposed to be the best and apparently the best sounding version.

While we are on this subject here is another…
1978's Steely Dan's Greatest Hits (ABC Records AK-1107/2)
Mastered from original tapes by Robert Ludwig. This is a good one to get if you are not that big a fan but want great sound.
