Wilson Max 2's and Halcro
I had the pleasure of hearing a fellow audiophiles system last night.
This system included the Wilson Maxx 2's,Halcro amp and pre,Esoteric Sacd/Cd player and a TT. I don't remember the actual model number of the Halcro's but they were monblocks with 300 watts/channel. He was running them on 230V's ...couldn't understand how he did that. It was connected...not by RCA,not Balanced but some other way which I also didn't quite understand either. He also had at one time the MC501's running the Max 2's but that didn't do it for him....no sale The sound...WOW......it would have knocked me off my feet if I was standing The sound was so captivating,alluring...what other super adjectives can I use? They were a gorgeous silver Can you tell I really enjoyed the Maxx 2's ? Of course they are way too large and way out of my price range. I can settle for the Duette's Has anyone heard this combination?..... one or the other? I will have to invite myself back again for an encore

I've heard the Maxx 2's and Halcro gear but not in a combination. If you were impressed with the Maxx 2s and the cooler sonic signature of the Halcro, you will enjoy the Duette's but I would suggest a pair of preowned or even new Sophia 2s. The Krell/Duette/Sophia 2 will get you close to that but on a smaller "scale" and a bit less dynamic impact.
Wilson usually applies what they have learned from previous generations and "trickle down" the technology to the future generations. The Maxx 3 is an awesome speaker as is the new Sasha which borrows from the Maxx 3. |

I used to salivate for the Wilson Maxx 2 but somehow can never find the courage to cough out the cash for a new pair. I keep waiting till ... well the rest is history.
Never did heard the Halcro's but Maxx 2 were driven by McIntosh amps as well as Audio Research Ref 3 + 600's. Killer combination. Wilson's sound is addictive and once hooked, will keep going in that direction. I did until McIntosh broke the hold on me. Now? I am listening to "light", aka the Acapella's High Violon Mk IV. If there's an opportunity, give them a listen. Would really love to hear your views! Duette & Sophia 2 are good speakers! Trickle down but never lesser! Cheers!

Here is an update with pics of the Wilson Max 2's and Halcro amps....
Here is the owners explanation of why he is using 240V... I am currently running the system with balanced interconnects as that has proven to be the best once all cables have been broken in! There should be one other note made here and that is that the Halcro's are a totally different sounding amp when powered with 240V vs. 110V. At 240V the amps lose there cool sound, and any sense of grain while the bottom end improves dramatically to give a far superior tonal balance. Many people have heard the Halcro's but almost always at 110V and have posted many opinions without proper knowledge of what they are hearing and therefore conclude that the Halcro's are analytical and cool. This is exactly what Serge had said in his post here The Halcro amp and pre are up for sale as well as some other goodies.....check it out HERE

Those Halcros can spotlight every mouse-hole or nook and cranny of sound, and paired with that inverted focal tweeter, I couldn't even imagine!
Wilson seems to be getting a lot of attention on here. That is a good thing methinks.

I heard from friend's Maxx 2 w/ the Aestethix monoblock amps, VPI TT and Clearaudio Cartridge. It was really nice, effortless sound. Something that is difficult to forget. Memorable experience as they say.
