Ditto. I am happy with the stock tubes in my 275 and plan to stay that way. Tube rolling seems too much like real work!

real work
What's your job ?
Mine is much more tough than tube rolling.
I had a 275. I changed the driver tubes for Telefunken ones. Result was VERY REWARDING. Changing the power tubes is also very good and don't cost a fortune for 4 KT 88 Gold Lion for example...
Cheers,
Jerome

It's over my head too, but I'm still interested.

Great read guys. I shouldn't have given up on my MC275V so fast. I rolled some but could never hit the sweet spot. Don't get me wrong, I'm still very much into MAC tubes.

After about 8 hours of break-in, the Tung Sol 6550 reissue tubes, NOS JAN Phillips 12AT7s and RCA 12AX7s are beating the pants off the stock McIntosh tubes. I was surprised at how little bass the 6550s started out with. But, they just needed a bit of time. Sublime.

Kevin,

If you think that you are happy with the stock tubes.... you just have NO IDEA what this amp is capable of.

I am one of those non-audiophile types that does not hear a lot of minute changes...

New tubes in my 275 was a MING BLOWING upgrade.

I just know that with my OCD nature, the minute I start down that path it will be all over for me. If I did hear a difference, then the quest to find the "perfect" tubes would consume me!
