Hi Jim.....If you toggle the platter to on and also toggle the vacuum to on and the platter shuts down with out toggling it to off then you may have a problem.......It should only shut down if it over heats or toggle the platter to off (common problem with 16.5 machines) I had the same issues with the 16.5 I use to have as I could only clean four or five LPs before it would over heat and shut down.

A mod you can do for the 16.5 to help the over heating problem is to install an exhaust fan......but the machine is even louder because of the 3 inch opening for the fan.
