I thought about starting the thread in the B&W sub forum, but that didn’t really fit. And with Rotel distribution in the US being picked up my Sumiko / McIntosh the waters could even become more murkier.

At the end of the day, a company whose entire production is made in China, this seemed fitting to me. This isn’t Michi RHA-10, RHB-10, RHCD-10 of the 90s.

These behemoths from China may end up in one of my rooms. Or I may stick with an American company made in America, such as McIntosh.

I’d love to get my hands on some of this or hear more feedback from anyone who has used the new Michi.
Yeah, not sure where Rotel belongs but Nikko did start a thread for the NEW Rotel Michi series under Japanese Exotica last November. There is also a Yamaha thread there.Yamaha seems far less Exotica than Rotel but maybe that is just me. 😀

I love the high end Yamaha stuff, but nothing turns me off more than premium components at premium prices being farmed out to the lowest bidder. Part of the reason I’m hesitant on the new Michi. I was hoping it be made in Japan like the original.

Yamaha C-5000 preamp $10,000 made in Malaysia
Yamaha M-5000 amplifier $10,000 made in Malaysia
Yamaha GT-5000 turntable $8,000 made in Malaysia
Yamaha NA-5000PNST speakers $15,000 made in Malaysia

They sure look the part though!

Made in Malaysia and made in prc(china) is not the same.
in Malaysia foreign factories were working on while in china they were hitting each other in the head with red books.

Back in the late 80’s, I bought a NAD 1300 preamp and 2600A amp. Both were made in Japan. I recently had the relays replaced on the amp by my local NAD authorized service center. It’s first repair after 30+ years of use. When I picked it up, there was basically a new NAD C 275BEE by the front door. I asked the technician who repaired my amp what the story was. He shook his head and said a guy just got it and was under warranty repair. I asked him how it compared with my old amp and he said the design doesn’t compare and that the 2600A was one of the early products that made a name for NAD and started mentioning several 2600A design features that impressed him. Taking the cost of living changes over the past 30 years, the 2600 was also less expensive. As far as I can tell, all of NAD products including the M series are made in DRC (China). Too bad because I used to like the brand.

For those interested there is a very positive review of the Rotel Michi M8 monoblock amp on the Stereophile website.

Cheers,

Scott
