These systems had ambiance tweeters in the rear and crossover adjustments in rear. They were very sophisticated speakers with servo bass with tremendous low bass output.

Old gear from back then is still at the top in many ways. Paul McGowan use Infinity IRS speaker system to tune his new gear.
I'v been listening to some different Western Electric systems from the mid 1920 and forward and they have got important properties that normal modern system don not have. Their effortless produced music and big soundstage is hard to beat. I have never heard a more live sounding system.

I never felt the XRT 30's the speaker the Gen II's, although it was a fine speaker. I used a Krell MRS subwoofer with the XRT 30's to get the extremely low bass of the Gen II's. The panels of the XRT 30's could not match the smoothness of the Gen II panels. Nothing SS I have seen has matched the Krell FPB line. The FPB 700 had a 6KV power transformer, ran pure Class A, had no filter storage capacitors, and special high power custom output transistors used in pairs, it had twice the usual number. It will never be made again. Best Charles Last edited by Charles; 01-09-2022 at 08:29 PM. |
