I am about halfway through the new remastered "Come Away with Me" from HDTracks in 24/192, playing through the Mac Mini/Audirvana -> Ayre QB-9 -> C22 60th -> MC275 MkV -> Harbeth Compact 7ES-3.

I've had the CD of this recording since it was released and listening to the HDTracks version is like hearing the album for the first time again. So many details I never knew were there. Her voice seems even richer, instrumental details are so finely resolved, yet without any harshness at all.

An incredible performance that has stood the test of time!

I only had the mp3 version of this album, and have to agree with jdandy and poster above. Much richer, and now hear instruments I didnt know were on the recording.
Very pleased with the 24;96 download.
Thanks!

btw, i was wrong, it wasn't al schmitt who recorded her (although he did, with ray charles). schmitt did all those diana krall records... and about a thousand other fabulous recordings, going back more than 4 decades.

Dan,
I set up my Redbook CD in the Oppo timed simultaneously with the HD Tracks album on the Macbook server, so I could simply click between remote buttons to compare the two.

IMO, the 24/192 version is definitely better. The Redbook version's soundstage is thinner and flatter than the 24/192 version, which has a larger, wider and deeper soundstage. There is also a fuller, more "in the room" quality to the 24/192 Khz version and a tonal richness not present in the Redbook version.

Also the Redbook version sounds more compressed, as if there is not as much dynamic range as the high-res version.

Stephen.......Sounds like an echo of my thoughts. It will be interesting to discover what the new Hybrid SACD that is coming has to offer.
