So what am I really getting from the Krell e555 in terms of pure performance in AV realms that warrants $15K contrasted with something like the Oppo 105 which is a fraction of the cost? I'm going to assume (although I'm pretty damn sure) we can start with DACs and video processing, not to mention the upgradable qualities (ability to play native 4K content). The ability to remove black bars present in movies shot with an anamorphic lens without any distortion is a nice touch too. But again, all this is touched upon in the official abstract. It would be nice to see a head-to-head comparison for a more tangible idea of the real world differences during use.

Well, I spoke to a Krell Industries employee about the e555. It was never released. They are still working on a player and have a tentative release date of midsummer. Whether the e555 was scraped in favor of a new model or more work was needed on the existing one was unanswered along with the price.
