John,

Congratulations. I would love to hear your comments with regards to the D700 vs D300 to see if it is worth upgrading or not.

I agree that there is no substitute for shooting a fast lens wide open; you can really make your subject pop and minimize distracting backgrounds.

I'm sure you will love Iceland, especially now as it is officially termed "half-price-land"!

Just got a D700 in for review and I'm afraid it's staying...
I've been using Canon for a long time (currently EOS 5D which is no slouch)
but the focusing and low light performance is what sold me on the D700.

I shoot a lot of concerts and the ISO 6400 performance of the D700 is tough
to beat and the camera shoots fast enough that I really don't need a D3.

In the studio, where we shoot all the product shots for the magazine, I could
easily live with the EOS 5D, but I've been needing a better location camera
for some time now. The D700 is very robustly built as well and has some
pretty attractive add ons too.

Default Chopped Liver?

Am I chopped liver because I love my Nikon F2? ......and the erotic thrill I get from touching emulsion? :-)

The F2 is a fantastic camera. Actually I might still buy a Mamiya 7 II, a beautiful rangefinder with a killer 6 X 7 format!

Nope the F2 is a great camera. Myself, I am lazy and do not miss developing film at all.

I use a Nikon D80 and own a few different lenses. I'm still trying to learn how to use this thing. So many options. I would love to learn shutter speed adjustment to take some night pictures (picture is still while the lights are streaking). Still cant figure it out, not sure if this SLR camera can do it. When I sold my older Nikon 35mm; I sold it with the speedlight flash. I probably should have kept it but wasn't sure if they were compatible since the D80 has a pop-up flash. Maybe I should take a class at my community college.
