I'm not knocking Shindo. It just seems that tube electronics [and the tubes themselves] are more fickle and require much more attention than solid state. I don't deny that all manufactures, including companies whose products I own will require some service.

I don't see switching to solid state at any time in the near future as the 300b tube sound is just so right for me. Frustrating as my experience has been for now I will continue to give it another try. Hopefully it will all work out.

Well, at least, you know how to do it know. Just be sure to be in a calm and relaxed way when you do this. Do not touch anything with your hands in the amps. Lethal voltages. Plus, with a faulty tube, it will be impossible to get a constant bias voltage. It will always fluctuate and this will give a strong indication for changing this tube if you do not have a tube tester. Sent from my iPad using A.Aficionado

For a tube lover, SS is a almost a bad word. When you have the " ears for tubes ", like when you have the " ears for vinyl", for sure, it takes efforts. It can be painful. But all this is rewarding to us by a much better sound than solid state. Solid state amps are boring to me. Not right away. But with time, they all get boring. While my love is always burning for my tube amps. I sold my Snappers to Georges, just because I had too many amps. I could buy them again in the blink of an eye. I still love them. They used to tell me to use one hand only and keep the other one in your trouser pocket. No, not that! Messing around inside tube amps...

There seem to be tube testers coming out of the woodwork everywhere you look these days. Some are old designs which have long been superseded but still actually work quite well. I have an Imp tube tester from the UK, but it is only good for 6922 and derivatives, as that is what I want to test for a Schiit Lyr headphone amp most of the time. Not sure if the guys at Upscale Audio could point you in the right direction.

I'm sure Dan discussed a tube tester but I can't recall the thread.....maybe worth a quick pm to ask him his recommendation?
