Organizing Cd's

I'm sort of a luddite, i guess.I have most of my collection on my N10, how ever I prefer to grab a handful of disks and spin'em. I have my collection split up into 2 racks. One(rack#1) is for artist that I only have 1-3 recordings of. Its arranged alphabetical by name. The other(rack#2,6'tall behind a door) is random large groupings such as Beatles, Stones,Springsteen,Dylan etc. Problem is rack 2 is full and I 've decided to have a third rack next to #1. I could keep 1/3 of the new space(90) for groups and the rest for new purchases or reorganize the 480 to alphabetical. I've been bouncing this around for a week now cant come to a conclusion.

Alpha, or by major genre and then alpha. Just need to leave enough space on each shelf for expansion within that letter grouping. My cds are all in storage, but vinyl is separated into 3 major groups: classical, jazz and popular (rock, folk, etc.), then alpha within those sections.

I built my own racks for cd and vinyl. I do not buy many cd's these days so that rack is sort of separated by genre and alpha. The vinyl rack is almost full so I am looking at another solution in the near future. I have them separated by genre (classic, rock, new age, jazz) then alpha. My initial plan when I got back into vinyl was to pick up 75 to 100 of the albums I really enjoyed in the past. That was almost 400 albums ago...!

Unlike LPs, I found I didn't have much of a physical attachment to most of my CDs and frankly, I always found the CD "jewel case" to be fiddly and annoying. (Even the name "jewel case" is annoying, although it is certainly a masterstroke of marketing. After all, they are CD cases, not jewel cases.) So I tossed almost all of my jewel cases (recycled them, actually), ripped the discs to HD and then my streamer and put the CDs in binders, alphabetically. That did leave a few CDs that I wanted to keep complete, but only a few, and they sit together on a shelf. I still play CDs - although not often - but find I enjoy them more now that I can play them from my streamer.

It's not just the convenience of having the CDs in my streamer that I enjoy - it's the elimination of clutter.

Same as Masterlu, I have the Boltz racks. All of my CDs have been ripped to my Memory Player., but I've kept them. I have them organized by artist in the same order as displayed in Roon and JRiver (by band name, or by the first name of solo artists). For CDs with various artists, I have them at the end organized by name of CD. If the various artists CD is focused on a single band or artist, I group them with that artist; e.g., a tribute to Little Feat, The Band or Grateful Dead with multiple artists.

At the top left, I keep the "audiophile" CDs, such as MoFi discs or other pressings such as XRCDs.

I have 1,000 on racks from Amazon that I have not touched in the years since I ripped them. They're all going to Goodwill so I can stop looking at them and maybe someone else can enjoy them before they hit the landfill
