While the decision to go with a slant pass appears to have been a poor one, I believe that tit wasn't all that bad a call. While, the odds, would suggest that Lynch would waltz in, that is not guaranteed, especially with everyone focused on him. He could have been stymied. I mean if everyone knows that the offense is going to run to ball, then a quick pass might catch them offguard. But it didn't.
What I saw was simply a phenomenal defensive play. It seems as if the defensive back just knew where the ball would be thrown. So I'm going to guess that Belichick, just knew or outsmarted Carroll and told his defensive coordinator that Seattle would pass the ball and that players should anticipate and react appropriately. So while everyone appears to be focused on the the 'poor' decision that Carroll made, I think the real focus should be on the simple outstanding defensive play, by a rookie yet, that we saw. Bottom line, is that the Pats outplayed the Seahawks throughout the game. without the lucky catch, all this would be a moot point.... I wanted Seattle to win. But I am grudgingly recognizing that the day belonged to the Pats.... |

Rock, fair points but I think they out foxed themselves and allowed a great defensive play to beat them. Really, what are the odds that NE would have stopped Lynch twice from the 1? I read this AM the strategy was to kill the clock for one play and then run. Umm, get it in the endzone and give Brady 10 secs. With their defense, that would seem to have been a better stratetgy. BUT THEY WERE THERE. I was not. I would have been crapping myself. Craig

You have to run in that situation when you have Lynch. You have to.

One has to wonder what made Carroll make that call. Obviously, out-foxed himself. But, its going to be Dallas all the way next year. America's team (so I've heard).

They used to have a play where they would fake giving it to Lynch and then Wilson
will keep the ball and roll to the outside. It's simple but since everyone will be expecting Lynch with the ball, Wilson will take it no problem, and it will kill more time in the process. You just have to watch that play in the 3rd quarter where he was waiting for a receiver and a guy was storming towards him and he just took off and left him in no time. That play call would have been masterful.
