It depends on your position. I’ve asked myself a few time now if I could achieve better sound if I were to migrate away from Roon. I like the interface so well I’ve never pursued that path other than to ponder. I guess it comes down to a balance between software and hardware. AND cost of course.

Many have found better sound using HQ Player with ROON. It’s extra expense and not straight forward.

My server offers the ability to use ROON core combined with Squeeze as the Player. That definitely provides better sound and gives me the best of both worlds.

Roon has improved SQ with the 1.8 release. It’s still a trial and error process to see which endpoints and sw will work best for you.
