Default New cables arrived today...

Today is a good day, as they all are actually.

I got a pair of Sigma V2 NRs for my amps, a trio of SR-Z1 outlets, a pair of Venom Defenders, and an Omega XC for my Denali.

Two additional dedicated 20 amp circuits go in next week. Each amp will have its own line, shared/protected by a Venom Defender. The front end (pre amp and digital stack) will run from the Denali, which will be isolated on its own circuit and connected with the Omega.

For now (until the new 20 amp circuits are run) the amps are running thru the Denali. Straight outta the box they are amazing, as is the Omega XC.

Not gonna get too many chores done today...

Default Gonna be a long day

Things just fell into place with one exception, so gonna be a long day today. My new Everest is due for delivery, along with a Furutech NCF Booster to fix a powercord that needs some support at the wall socket. A couple of custom sized acoustic panels arrived yesterday along with some cable support blocks I need as well.

The Everest replaces a Denali in the rack, so that comes out, and the Upsampler moves from above the DAC to where the Denali used to reside. So, while not a total system dismantling, damn close.

In the meantime I modified the tapered end tables that will sit between the rack and speakers. The Everest will be on one of these; since it is so close to the speaker, I lined the inside of the top of the tables (it is a big cavity) with several layers of automotive sound proofing material. I also affixed some custom made acoustic panels to the rear of the tables to act as a bass trap, as well as close off the view I used to have straight thru the table to the wall behind it.

I also got cable risers to address cable management while the system is being reconstructed. These are a budget solution (cheap) that I’ll use where I can, and I’ll go for more expensive solutions when I need to. I added the cup hooks to one as a prototype to provide anchors for rubber bands to stretch over the cable to anchor it in place. It was nice to find them monogrammed just for me...

The exception is the maple platform I’m having made to match the tapered footprint of the table on which the Everest will set isn’t here. So I can hook everything back up today and be up and running again, but I’d have to disconnect all the power when the platform arrives, then hook it all back up again. Or I could wait until the platform arrives to hook it all back up.

I woulda been a doctor but I didn’t have the patience - I’ll hook it all back up today. Not even a close call...

Slainte,

Mitch

Yes, they went in a couple days ago. I’m blown away by the improvement across the whole spectrum of sound...much more percussive force to the bass (I’m hooked on a song by Tool, Pneuma, which absolutely pressurizes the room), greater depth to midrange, clarity in the highs and sound stage that is across the whole front of the room, and wraps around me.

The electrician recommended I get a newer panel so that’s in the cards too...

Great! I'm not surprised that the new dedicated lines made an audible difference for you. It really does all start with the power.

So, I get everything hooked up and running despite the fact the 1.5m Stealth V18 (digital) that runs from the clock (second shelf on the left) to the Everest is taught as a frozen rope, I gotta yank the clock all the way to the near center of the rack, and I gotta pull the table the Denali is on out of center to make the cord reach. I’m out balance...this is gonna bug me to no end.

Um, why not put the Denali on the other side? Well, durn it, that’d solve that problem. Think I’ll chill chill for a while first...

Near beer thirty here...

I’m almost there...

Moved the Everest to the left, to discover the 1.5m V18 (preamp) isn’t long enuff to go from the preamp to the Everest. But, the 2.0m V12 (digital) I have will make it, so I have a mismatch on cords—a pre cord on the DAC and a digital cord on the preamp.

The solution is to switch the positions of the DAC and preamp. That will wait until the maple platform and a pair of Omega AES cables arrive next week sometime.

Time for some serious time in the sweet spot.
