In the past I used to have a DP-500, the first one I had to give back as it was contantly "skipping" a few seconds.
The dealer replaced the unit with a new one, I agree normally Accuphase equipment is very reliable, but it can happen.

Congrats.. That was quick! So any preliminary impressions?
Agree with the 400-500hrs before things finally settle into places. IME, PRATs should improve quite notably then.

True, but still not of any significance.

So what is the MSRP of the DP720?

Had a good listen to it last night as well as the 900 + 901 stack. Brought back memories of my DP700 but the sound was much improved.

I also listened to the Chord QB76HD, Chord's newest and top end DAC which is a bargain at only around 5k. Using the accuphase as a transport, I actually preferred the Chord's sound. It was more transparent and had a lighter airiness about it. I begin to see why this one has been touted as a giant killer. The 901 Dac was slightly warmer but sounded a little more muffled (ever so slightly). I could easily live with both.

My initial thoughts were to buy the Chord for my Sooloos and then the DP720 for my SACDs. But since the DP720 now has digital inputs and USB inputs it kind of makes the Chord redundant apart from the DSD capability, which to be honest is unlikely to be of much practical use.

Just as I was about to leave the dealer suggested I look at the TAD Labs D1000 SACD player. This is TAD's newest player and also includes DSD via USB, all in one box. Surprisingly the price was not much more than the DP720 even though in Japan the difference is quite a bit. (1.5 million vs 1.150 million yen).

Gotta check out the TAD now.

For those who want to know the price of the DP720 over here, you can pm me.

Cheers

howie
