Listening to disc 2 of 3-disc set (Paris Symphonies)...
Haydn: Symphonies Nos. 84, 85 Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Concentus Musicus Wein Vivacious, energetic symphonies from Haydn. The interpretations from Harnoncourt are punchy with prominent brass touches. The recorded sound is excellent. |

True, but this is only half the set. If one comes across the 1991 Philips Silver Line 4 CD set of all 12, do not hesitate. Sir Davis and RCO are superb.

Listening to . . . . . Heinz Holliger - Concerti Per Oboe
Albinoni, Marcello, Cimarosa, Samartini, Lotti I Musici The sound of a well played and well recorded oboe is, to me, not far from reaching the quintessential and the epitome of recorded sound and Heinz Holliger may well be the finest purveyor of this heavenly modality. And, this recording is a most listenable, nay, say, a truly gorgeous example of the oboe art. In other words, this one is damn good.
