Default Need a new Universal Remote. Help!

Logitech Harmony 900 was dropped. After picking it up the LCD exploded.

I am looking for something that is highly customisable, will not date or become obsolete, discontinued or sold off next year & is well supported.

Want slim, handheld with common buttons not a panel remote. LCD that is image programmable for macros, events, favorites.

Granular programming ability via PC interface. Want something that supports conditional logic. The harmony was too basic & inflexible in that regard.

I'm thinking back to the Philips Pronto & Crestron days & want something in that league.

Vendor database of IR commands should be a given.

IR & RF preferred.

Product suggestion welcome.

I recently bought harmony ultimate remotes. I was able to program them myself easily and they seem to work well so far. I am controlling set ups with six or less components and the delays etc seem to work great.. I also have he equipment hidden so it seems to work fine. My main criteria in choosing these was being able to program them myself so I don't have to pay someone every time I change a component . The local control four dealer wanted over a grand for first time setup. My programming time was around 30 minutes.

You can take one more step up from the MX-980 with the MX-1200. I have both and I've found that the 1200 is infinitely more flexible. I use it in conjunction with the MSC400 master system controller where you connect to your devices via RS-232 cables.

Harmony is good for a quick no nonsense setup but lacks granular control & can tie you up with its tendency to send power on/off codes during Activity changes for devices in an activity group even if you have specified otherwise. This can be problematic if you are trigger wired.

I'm also over Harmony due to the recent Logitech sell off & product lifecycle uncertainty. Needless to say, they did nothing to enhance the program control software over the past 3 years with the exception of building their device database thanks to the end user, which ultimately gave value to the sell off...

Ivan....MX-980 looks like a nice remote with some good programmatic tricks. No touch though....Is the MX-1200 due for a model update?

RS232 is an interesting option because most of my activities are triggered via the Denon AVP-A1HD, with the exception of 2ch of course.

Although at another level up from the MX-980, seems the MX-1200 an older generation model? Resistive not capacitive touch...

The MX-1200 is actually one of Universal Remote's newest remotes. It has the best combination of hard and soft buttons, size and programability of all of the remotes I've ever owned. I also have the MX-5000 but it I miss having a keypad so it gets very little use.

I really like the URC line of remotes, I use them exclusively myself. I use a few MX-980's, MX-1200's, and MX-6000.

Both the MX-980 & MX-1200 are beauties. I like the potential & what the MX-1200 could cleanly do.

Can you describe the differences between the MX-1200 and the MX-980?
