This could never happen to me, as I lock off the entire floor. But if it did...

Really sorry to hear about this mishap!

Soundsmith can probably do the repair, but the unknown can perhaps be a slight change in the cartridge's sonics-voicing, inherit to that model.

Reason can be different Stylus Profile, and Cantilever Material.

Not at all trying to discourage, as many cartridges, even TOTL might actually sound better after such repair. Might depend upon how many hours you have-had on the original Stylus, and condition of Cantilever Suspension Materials? Or as well the stock Stylus profile?

I know Peter L has also mentioned on more than one occasion seeing quite a number of uber expensive cartridges where the Stylus wasn't even correctly mounted in the cantilever.

Our cleaning lady and sidekick have been instructed since day 1 not to enter my music room. I handle all cleaning duties in there. It certainly helps having my system in a dedicated room. I can easily see how this happens when the turntable is in a common area and there is no dust cover protecting the stylus.

I have recurrent dreams that my Benz LP-S stylus gets trashed. Comes with the territory.
I normally don't let the cleaning lady clean the entire audio/HT room as I do that myself. It was my wife who let her dust around the TT area while I was out for a couple of hours not to mention I don't have a dust cover for my TT and/or protective cover for my stylus which I should and will.

Thank you fellas! I have just talked to Sound Smith and they said they can fix it. There are few choices of material I can choose from, which one of their best recommendation is the Ruby cantilever with diamond and the second best is the aluminum alloy cantilever. According to them after they're done, the spec of the cart should be the same and the sound quality, if not the same, it would be better. The only downside is, it will take about two months. However I do have another source here in CA that I will call that also does cartridge retipping, I'll let you know what they'll say later.

That sounds great !
Do you have an other cart to use while waiting for the Lyra to be repaired ?

What I have learned, fortunately not first-hand:
If the cleaning lady has access to the hifi room, and you're not hovering over them for the duration of each session, then this tragedy will eventually occur. Prior communications, agreements, and warnings are all inconsequential.

Jerome, I don't have an extra cart I can use for the mean time instead, I have my Oppo 95 to use for now.

Ok, I found another place in Washington called "Phono Cartridge Repair & Retipping" which I think may be a better one, here's the link: http://www.phonocartridgeretipping.c...ice-phono.html I called them and they said, for $25 more than what SoundSmith is charging, they will replace my cantilever with the Boron type material just like the original instead of the Ruby that SoundSmith suggested and as far as the diamond, they will install the "Micro Rich Diamond" and should take no more than two weeks instead of two months from SoundSmith. Any opinion on this?
