Another thing to keep in mind is the heavier the vinyl the more static it can hold. Heavier LPs tend to hold more static and thus require the frequent use of an anti static gun.

Agree. I'm more often disappointed with new release than with older ones.
180gm needs a much longer time to cool and most company don't leave them enough so they are more warped. I've even had one (brand new unopened) where it would make the needle jump ! |

From which companies are we talking about?

A crappy sounding recording will sound crappy whether on Dynawarp or 200 g vinyl Probably on the list of things you've presented, the vinyl quality probably comes last. We can also add the type of vinyl used in the pressing too eg. there are different formulations out there.

Not MoFi, I only had good results from them.
From the back of my mind, Ziggy Stardust - 40th anniversary warped, primus sailing the sea of cheese warped, ... i'll post a complete list later but it's quite long. The worst was from Blue Note : http://www.discogs.com/Solomon-Ilori...elease/2071381 |

I have had very mixed results. I have had bad 180 and 200's and good ones. I recently got three new Blue Note reissues that are spectacular, $10 each. I now find reviews before I buy a thick one. Not so much with the $10 varieties.

I am more concerned about the quality of source, mastering and the mastering chain.
As long as the vinyl is good quality and not noisy I don't get too caught up in whether its 180g, 200g or whatever. Most new reissues are 180g or 200g and I have a lot of these (several hundred). I still buy a lot of older used classical too and much of that is on thinner vinyl. It can sound just as good or just as bad as new thick vinyl.
