Serge.......That's just plain crazy.

BTW, great model collection. Love that red, split window Vette in the last photo. If I remember correctly, that was the first year Corvette used fuel injection.

The "split window coupe" is a 1963, the only year they had that feature. Not very popular back then but worth a heck of a lot of money today.

The first Vette to use fuel injection was a 1957 with a "fuelie" 283CI motor good for 250HP if my memory serves me right.

Serge.......Thanks for the update on fuel injection. I'm a Corvette watcher, though never an owner. The '63 split window coupe is a beauty. Thanks for that photo. I saved it to my hard drive.

Dan, check out ProTeam Corvettes and the crazy prices they fetch these days. Classic Chevy Corvettes for Sale from World's Largest Dealer

Funny thing is that I was offered a Tuxedo Black, numbers matching '67 Big Block 427 that was fully restored to perfection in 1985 for a measly $14k and I turned it down. Instead I bought a new Nissan 200SX which has been rotting away at the junk yard for the past 12 years at least now...

Thanks Jim. I've collected them over many years and have tons more but ran out of room in the curio... I am not looking forward to moving my car collection to the new house. Each one has to be individually boxed up in their proper boxes. I figure I have over $12k into those models.. :screwy:

A very long time ago (about 5 or 6-years old) my best friend and I went to the same elementary school just a few miles from home. We didn't live far enough to ride the school busses so one of our parents would drop us of and come get us each day.

So one warm afternoon the friend's mother is picking us up in her new 66' Ford Galaxie 500XL (390cid-four door if you’re curious) and the school is at the end of a cul-de-sac. The school busses are gone from the front circle and he climbed in the front seat and I in the back.

The radio is playing and I'm bouncing my leg up and down with the beat. On one leg bounce my knee went under the door latch and opened the door. If anyone here knows your Galaxies’ you can see how this can happen easily.

So I fell head first out of the car hitting the concrete and rolling over to the sidewalk. The car was only moving a few mph. Two other kids looked at me as if I should be bleeding but alas, I wasn't. I just looked at them and said "I'm fine".

The friend's mother was a different story...

She saw that I fell out and in her typical white face of fear, got out of the car after me.

Now when I say she got out of the car, that's just what she did. She didn't hit the brakes; put the car in neutral or even park. She just GOT OUT!

So now she's running towards me and the red four-door is still rolling along. It jumped the curb and tried to climb a small hill on the other side of the sidewalk. By that time my friend dove over the transmission hump and onto the floor and pushed the brake with his hand then figured out how to put the gearshift in park.

You should have seen her face telling this whole story to my laughing parents!!

Another car story (sort of) involving the same friend but only this time it was MY parents.

The friend and I were in about the 3rd grade and my father volunteered to drive a school bus to an 8th-grade graduation picnic for one of my older siblings. Mom drove separately in her car so she could take the friend and me.

The day went great and things were starting to wind down and get a little dark. Now, the friend and I had been on the swings for well over a couple hours and I stopped to look around. I noticed there was nobody from our group anywhere to be seen. Even the bus was gone. We looked around some more only to find that my mom had left too.

With tears in the friend’s eyes we found another family in the park that was about to leave when we told them what happened and asked for their help. They kindly took us to a gas station down the road and called to police. After a few minutes the police came and told us to climb in the back of their cruiser. The cruiser had one of those K-9 fences separating the front seats from the back and that was the first time I ever felt like a criminal.

My parents were called about the same time my dad walks through the front door to discover that each one of my parents thought I was with the other.

While waiting for dad to show up at the gas station, one of the policemen turned around and asked what my dad drove. I told him proudly “He’s in a metallic blue 1968 Dodge Polara Station Wagon license number 8848-AP”. Both cops looked at each other as if they had some sort of Einstein on the hands.

Dad finally showed up and after a brief explanation to the cops of what happened and short chewing out in reply, we went home and had to explain the whole thing to the friend’s mother..….Touché.

Speaking of car stories, a friend of mine used to work in a body shop and I was keeping him company as he was disassembling an engine of an early Camaro. The car was parked on a hill and since it was a manual, he simply left it in gear. As he proceeded to remove one of the heads and loosen the other, the phone rang and we went in for a few minutes. When we came back out, the car was gone....

Didn't take us long to figure out what happened, once the compression was gone, the car simply rolled down the hill. Let's just say it needed much more body work at the end of the day.
