My Homemade Cable Risers
This all started when I moved my electronics from between my speakers to the side of the room. That left me with long runs of I/C cable. I've always like the look of cable risers, and I needed the more organized look to satisfy my OCD.
I had some American Cherry left over from making some table legs. The remnants were 1-5/8"x 2-1/2". I had several feet of it. So, I thought that would make dandy cable risers. I cut each one to 4" long, and routed the channels in the top side. Then on to sanding and finishing. I left finish out of the cable channel, uncertain as to any reaction it might have with the cable jacket. Lastly I glued a 1/8" Sorothane pad under each one. Tah-dah. Cable risers. Natural wood matches my listening decor better than alternatives. Critiques? . Last edited by jdandy; 07-14-2017 at 06:46 PM. Reason: enlarge photo |

Aaahhhh, but you could have obsessed and read review after review and posted and then been flamed and generally cogitated over the whole thing for months, and then spent a boatload of cash on something that would do just the same thing - what a missed opportunity.
Actually, very well done and hats off. |

Thanks all. Of course if I valued my time, these are the most expensive cable risers known to man. But, it was fun mixing woodworking and audio. Next up, I have to do the same for my speaker cables.

Are you aware of the electron emissivity of cherry wood compared to other woods, ceramics and various forms of glass???
The wood working looks excellent. Last edited by GaryProtein; 07-14-2017 at 08:44 PM. |
