Result ! My carpet gliders arrived so I've spent the day moving speakers around. I downloaded a test tone CD from the RealTraps website and have a SPL meter so measured the room at various distances from the front wall.
The best frequency curve with an improved lower end was 30 inches from the wall to the rear inner spike. I've been listening in this position and the voicing and soundstage seem fine - but with improved bass so very happy (so far). Thanks for the input / suggestions I seem to have a achieved a genuine improvement in the sound quality for the price of some carpet sliders ! Definitely worth the time spent |

I have been testing placement over the last two days.
16" or 40cm from the rear wall. Results were really good. Super strong bass, very nice full sound. 12" or 30cm from the rear wall. Great results again, the bass was strong but a little bit less that 16"/40cm, but definitely livable. I also tried various toe-in positions, from 1-3". 1" gave the best results. For me, 16" is prefect. I will re-check when my acoustic panels arrive for the rear wall.

Hi Audiohippo,
At 40cm I am pretty sure your frequency curve will not be flat, there will be a spike somewhere between 30 and 60 HZ, a friend of mine has the same with his 802 Diamonds, but he likes the extra volume in the low frequencies. (for me it's too much, like it a bit more coherent) Therefor I prefer the method as explained by charles, neutral zone

Did your speakers come with the instruction manual from Wilson? You should try their recommended process. They need room to breath. Bring them out from that back wall 24 inches or a bit more, move them wide apart but still 24 inches or so from the side walls and toe them in so you can just see the inside side of the top cabinet sections. Every professional setup I've seen done, including those by senior Wilson people looks much this way. Likely your bass will be less pronounced but much smoother and tighter; and the imaging way better. Enjoy those great speakers!
