Ah ah ! Low power ! I love your sense of humor Stephen. These amps sound like they have an unlimited power, maybe let's say round 1 or 2 k !!
VERY disturbing !

Today I had the immense privilege of receiving one of the few great Masters of High End high fidelity, Mr. JC VERDIER, who came to bring me his 845 Triode Spirit.
I took pictures, I'm proud like a kid, and most of all the 845 monoblocks are just fantastic. I'm listening to them right now. F a b u l o u s
More to come when I will recover from my emotions !
Cheers,
This is so cool! I can't wait to hear more ... and see photos.

ok friends,
i will give you my impressions as they come, because I'm a bit submerged right now to write a full review.
No winner here between the 2301's and the Verdier 845.
the Mc is like traveling in a Bentley. The Verdier is a Ferrari.
i love both.
And both sound very different. But to me, they are both extremely enjoyable.
My wife just asked me : " do you need a Ferrari AND a Bentley " . Well, I could afford both of them, thanks God. And Life is short. And I know people who have both in their garage. Why I couldn't have both in my listening room?
These amps are wonderfully complementary.
2 ways of making music in Hi-Fi. Just 2 wonderful ways.
BTW, Mr Verdier wanted to listen to the Mcs. He made no comment and after that he told me only good things about McIntosh. And this is rare believe me !
I wanted to offer him a copy of the Mc book because I have 2 of them. And guess what ? he already had one ! he admires their design.
i think that I just found my dream : having 2 different systems in the same room. depending on the music and the mood I'm in, I will switch between those fabulous monoblocks.
Life is good !
We've had very bad news for our community these last days.
But life goes on. And thanks to a Master of Hi Fi of near 80 years old, life is more beautiful than ever.
We talked of many things.
I wish I could have recorded this time spent together.
This kind of individual is highly stimulating. He is a true Master, and not only for HiFi.
Hats down Mr. Verdier. I am very fortunate to know you.

more to come......

i'm currently listening to Ben Harper's Lifeline, digital.
i said to my wife : "do you her his voice. really different that what we're used too right ? " She said "yes, absolutely". and the music I asked ? she said "it seems a bit aggressive no ? " I replied : " no. It is more involving. a music that you can't ignore. You're trapped into it like being sucked by a vaccum cleaner ! " she said " yes. you're right. but depending on your mood, yo could dislike this ! " I said " that's exactly why these amps are here ! "

more to come....

Jerome, Will this pair be staying or do you have to wait for your pair? Figuring that you are buying/keeping.

I'm quite sure that they will be staying. Mr Verdier just has to chnge a transfo which has a little faint on the painting....
They are wonderful.
Sorry my friends if my words are not very explicit.
I'm under the charm of it, and it seems to me that all my body is flooding....

Glad you like it Jerome - it's not one of those subtle differences, it's "in your face" and there is a rightness to it. The sound is so "continuous" - especially in the midrange.

Once you hear and get used to the Class-A and/or SET sound (both with transistors and with tubs) it's very hard to go back to push-pull.

The price/watt ratio is really high for Class-A and SET (and so is power consumption) but my, oh my, I can't think of many better ways to blow some $ and electrons .

Listening to my Cortese as we speak ... anytime a human voice comes in it's hard to do anything else but listen.

Enjoy,

Alberto

PS As much as I'd like you to join the Shindo parade, you should really stick with Verdier and get one of their preamps. System synergy is so important.

Thanks Alberto,

Yes, the sound is intoxicating.
Mr Verdier did not tell me anything about his preamp. He's the kind of man who let people go to him with requests. He dsoes not suggest anything.
BTW, he makes one of the most impressive phono preamp in the world.....
You're right. I will either stick to the C1000 ( I think I will keep the 2301's but it ' s too early to be sure ) or I will try one of his preamp...
Time to go to bed now !
did not say good night to my wife. Will spend a bad time tomorrow morning....
Jerome
