I know the Firebottle can use 6sl7, 6sn7, and 6bx7. Can it use a 6bl7? How about a 7af7 with an adapter?

I just ordered some Mark Audio Pluvia-7-PHD for some frugal horn mK3's. They roll off a bit on the high end, which may just suit the LP-3 and 6v6 well. (It sometimes is just a nidge sharp in the high high end.) I figured I can start getting them broken in while I hammer out the details of the flat pak (might order a supra baffle for flexibility).

Update I actually ordered a pair of Mark Audio MAOP 7 drivers as well. Have them both in (the Pluvia 7PHD too) and am just awaiting the arrival of the Big Wood Studio flatpack. They're a little pricier now due to the increase in lumbar prices, but still worth it in my eyes as I am short on time these days.

Pretty excited about getting these together!

Florida... you ever get your frugal horn flatpack ordered?

Cheers!

Not yet, but will order them shortly. I bought a used pair of Omega 10" Alnico
speakers and that has delayed ordering.

Dennis has had a pair of these single drivers speakers (the prototype) for about 6 months now. These are now his go to in his home reference system where he does his real critical listening.
https://flic.kr/p/2me9a7j
This is where all his designs are finalized. He has put his touch on them with some contour network magic and some other tweaking. In that he had the prototype I needed to make another set for myself. I went ahead and made more than one.

They are close to ready to go.

And breaking in the first pair at the office.

Dennis is so fond of this design and driver he wants to put the Inspire Badge on them. We have yet to discuss where.

Curious out of all those, how would you compare the Lii audio and Omega CAM?
I’ve been thinking about Omega’s for some time. Either 3i high output or CAM for my 6V6 amp.
Also which in your opinion has the best off axis performance?

Thanks

Simon,

I have not heard the CAMs but own a pair of super 7s and had a pair of 3 T monitors as well. I enjoy the Omega sound a lot. They got me into Single Drivers. I have Lii F15s in a ported floorstander and had a pair of Silver 6s I recently gifted to a friend in a pair of Omega Super 7 cabinets. The one thing they all have in common is the need for a bit of taming by way of a Contour Network. Along with the incredible speed and detail, and perfect phasing of a SD comes a not so flat response. You mention off axis listening. I too am not always in prime position and like to still have good sound. A CN is required for all these SDs to ‘disappear’ outside the sweet spot. All that said. Omegas are more balanced and listenable for longer periods. The Lii drivers are incredibly detailed and fast but I find them fatiguing before to long. Dennis and I are currently hooked on a backloaded enclosure based around the Fostex FE126, also tamed by a CN. Our current enclosure and CN is blowing mi Omegas and Luis away. Good luck with your adventure.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Look forward to hearing more about these fostex speakers of yours. Those are tall claims for a wee FE126.

Cheers

Simon

On that note, this from Dennis just the other day,

“Scott, after all these months with the FA1 speakers (w/ Fostex FE126) in line, I can NOT listen to anything else in my listening room. They are that good!!!! They continue to improve. That lil ole driver is amazing with your cabinet design.”

Of course that “lil ole driver” needed Dennis’s genius with electronics and such to refine the whole project to where it is today.
