J.S. Ondara - Tales Of America

Based on a friend's recommendation

Beautiful voice and nice guitar performance... Bob Dylan meets Tracey Chapman...

Always a very pleasant listen. I like Sophie a lot. Highly recommend giving her voice and guitar a listen and peruse her albums. They all offer something special.

Zelmani was born in the suburbs of Stockholm in 1972. Her father bought the family a guitar when Zelmani was 14. Despite no professional music training, Zelmani became a songwriter and recorded some songs at a local studio. After she mailed the demos to three record companies, Zelmani was offered a record deal by Sony Music Sweden.

With no musical background and without ever having performed in public, Zelmani rose to the top of the charts with her debut album. In spite of being known as very shy, she soon reached an audience all over Europe and Asia with her tender singer/songwriter country. Zelmani got her first guitar at the age of 14 and was taught some chords by her father. She learned to write songs, and almost ten years later, sent a few tapes to various record companies. Sony replied first and brought her together with producer and guitarist Lars Halapi, known for having worked with Ulf Lundell and Bo Kaspers Orkester. But the very close collaboration with Zelmani, where Halapi had total control over the arrangements, was perhaps his most successful.

I have been back to this Steve Earle Album Stream a dozen times over the past couple of weeks. Wonderfully done tribute to his late son.

I have this on order via vinyl, which I think is due in a few weeks. Tragic for Steve, whom I’ve followed since the mid-80s.

Just surfing new things to stream and came across Birdy-Young Heart on Tidal and find it very appealing. Apparently she’s been around awhile but have never heard of her. Very easy to listen to. Would love to hear others opinions of it.
