E-470 - A Humble review
While we are waiting for Ivan to give us grand review on the E-470, let me try to give my humble opinion on the this Integrated Amp.
Look at my signature below, so you understand where I am coming from. I have been looking for an Integrated for years to downsize, and I think my search is over. It sounds very musical, very pleasant to listen to. No bright, glary sound. Instrument separation – best I have heard. You can immediately tell if Aurender is playing thru Oppo 105 Vs. DC-37 (I know this is E-470 review, but I just mentioned it anyway). Base is excellent. Now how does it compare with my other past gears? Smokes McIntosh gear with C50 pre in the loop. But with Ref. 5se replacing C50 pre, Mc and ARC combined sounded very good. Very tight race with Cary – I believe this is because of two chassis SLP-05 Pre. With ARC rig? Well this is tricky; ARC ref. gear throws a big,wide,deep sound stage. But it takes hours (about 400) to get there and then too you have to wait 30 minutes or so every time you turn it on for it to give its best. Accuphase does have a good sound stage but not as big as ARC, of course. Conclusion - Fits very nicely between Cary and Audio Research Ref. products. It is a keeper because of size, quality, sound and no tube hassle. Remote only controls Volume and source selection. Headphones will not mute the speakers. I am not very good at describing sound, so if you ask me to be specific, I will not be able to reply. I also wear hearing aid during meetings and dinner parties.

Thanks Banter. Your review is very helpful. I am not surprised regarding your comments on the ARC soundstage. It is their party trick, and in my opinion the ARC soundstage is unnaturally large and out of proportion to the real thing. I am very much leaning towards buying the 470 in the next couple of months.

Banter.......Runs neck in neck with Cary and smokes McIntosh, uha? Gotta love those adjectives.
 In my opinion you should try the MC452 with a better preamp.  Little doubt the Accuphase sounds amazing, though. The E-470 is a fabulous integrated amplifier by any measure.

That is a beautiful piece of gear. My only complaint about the aesthetics of the Accuphase line is their 'chintzy' looking speaker terminals. At least they are on the back. I mean......... red & black plastic? For $10K+ one expects at least faux gold.
Ivan - can you do something about those speaker terminals for us?

Yes............. plastic, even the highest-tech/quality out there simply does not have the look and feel (cachet?) of a nice metal finish. No one pays $10K for a watch with a plastic case. Am sure they have not one iota to do with the sonics and long-term wonderfulness of the E-470 and will play no part in my decision to pull the trigger on an Accuphase integrated amp. Am not a fan of plastic intake manifolds, either. But, that's me.

I have ordered a e-470 myself
 . I allready got some kick ass McIntosh gear (C48+mc1.2KW), but im verry curious on this amp. Speaker, dont laugh, Klipsch Cornwall III :P. I will allso test it as a preamp to my 1.2kw . Test report will be posted .
