Thumbs up Accuphase gear pics!

Just thought it would be neat to see what you guys/gals have in the way of Accuphase gear.

I'll start with my vintage (1973) C-200 preamp which I got for a song. It's in mint condition inside and out. The only thing I did to it was run Deox-It through all the controls, used a Deox-It pen on the RCA's, replace and up-size the eight large caps for the power supply and various other boards, and also replace and up-size (the wattage only) the two main resistors on the power supply board. Oh, and I removed the rack handles. Other than that, the C-200 is completely stock and sounds excellent!

And now for a few pics... Naturally.

Half the caps replaced and still using the stock clamps

The rest of the caps replaced

The two resistors replaced

Cool preamp, I remember those...

What did you end up paying for it?

It was about $400 shipped. I saw a few go recently for around $1100 on a couple of auction sites!

Sweet looking preamp! Vintage and classic looking. It does look very clean; from the inside it doesn't look like a 40 year old preamp. Oh, tone controls per channel I see some delicious comment coming. I bet it sounds delicious, I'm sure. Yes, what's the other gear it is connected to? There are some nice tube amps in the background. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the complements guys!

From the looks of the other gear on this site, I doubt I'll get "flamed" for having tone controls if that's what you mean. Most all of the Mac preamps that a lot of the members here have have tone controls as well. If I need to use them, I use them, if I don't, I bypass them.

As for the amps in the background, the one waaaaay back in the back (with the wood trim) is a cheap Chinese amp that my brother bought a while back. He wanted me to look at it because one channel was much louder than the other and was distorted IIRC. Since it was really cramped in the chassis, used PC boards and clumps of wire everywhere, I didn't even bother diving into it. Shortly thereafter, he sold it.

Now MY amp on the other hand, is an old Baldwin Organ tube amp that was modified to 2-channel stereo operation. It dates back to the mid-50's and is in excellent shape inside and out. I had to replace the aluminum canister capacitors as they were no good. They are 3-section caps so I obviously had to replace them with three pairs of new electrolytics. I kept the original Sangamo Type 33 coupling caps as well as the original mica bypass caps.

After doing a little tube rolling, I ended up with a combination that really lets the music come through untouched. Very strong, powerful, natural, airy, spacial, etc, etc, etc. This amp drives my 87dB @ 1w/1m NHT 2.9's with ease. Then again, this amp has a very robust power supply. It weighs a good 50 lbs, most of which is on the left side!

The tube complement is...

2 - NOS Philco 5U4G rectifier tubes
2 - NOS RCA 5751 driver tubes
4 - NOS Russian Quad OTK 6n3c-E (6L6 equivalent) output tubes

Of course, a few pics...

Before

After - Old canister caps completely disconnected

All point-to-point wiring

With noisy GE 5U4's and cheap Shuguang 6L6 tubes... Yuck!

With NOS Philco 5U4G's and OTK 6n3c-E tubes

And a nice 30 second long exposure of some glowing tubes!

Thanks guys!

What can I say, I love vintage gear, the way it was built back in those days, the way it looks and the way it sounds when paired up with the right associated "other" vintage gear.
