Lance Armstrong Stripped of 7 Tour De France Titles

Looks like they finally got Lance Armstrong. According to reports Armstrong on Thursday night dropped any further challenges to USADA's allegations that he took performance-enhancing drugs to win the Tour De France from 1999-2005. Which means he will be banned for life and stripped of his 7 Tour De France Victories for doping. I just read that Lance dropped the challenge due to the fact he was tired of having to defend himself. This is one situation I don't think we will ever know the truth to. Sad situation as we're left to just speculate whether he was this great inspiration to cancer victims or a win at all costs cheater. I think one thing everyone can agree on is he did a lot to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

I think it's been pretty obvious he did it for some time with all his team mates testifying, but it still sucks to see a hero figure and someone who overcame so much to fall.

To me, all this story is ridiculous. They are ALL doped. That's why the last tour I watched was the one won by Lemond against Fignon in the eighties. Fignon: an other champion, doped, who died early a few years ago. Fignon admitted that he took forbidden drugs. And probably died from that. Like so many others, winners or not of the Tour.
They ALL cheat. So that is no more cheating. That is the hidden rule of the game.
To make the "show" bigger, they have increased the difficulty of this sport at a level where the participants have no other choice than taking drugs.

My wife has an opposite view about Lance though. She thinks that after having a cancer, he would not have taken the risk of taking drugs.

Jérôme, having had cyclists as patients and friends, I can agree with you: they testify that ALL the champions are doped. Sad but true. So it is no more than a show, just like American wrestling where doping is admitted (if I'm no mistaken).

Does rampant cheating make it any less wrong or fraudulent? I don't understand why these baseball dickheads who get busted for steriods don't have thier records stripped. It is either wrong, or it ain't - period.

Tis not only the champions. It's all of them.

As Jerome said, when they all do it, it is no longer cheating. The field is level.
