Pete, what a great mix of old and new, and a real audiophile space there. How does the RtR sound, especially vs. LP? I sold audio gear in '83 for a few months just as CD players were coming out, and RtR was past its prime, marketwise, then. Never did get the chance to really listen to it, but it intrigued me.

The Crown R-R sounds good, but it needs work. These were legendary machines in their day. This one can make a CD sound like an LP with its smoothness. Unfortunately these machines don't like sitting idle for long periods of time, and this one has been doing just that. It starts out okay but as tape gathers on the takeup reel, it slows down. I think the first thing it needs is a new drive belt. I just never seem to get around to it...there is always a higher system priority. What I'd really like is an MCD/MDA1000 combo..

Glad the tubes worked out for you & after much finagling in my system, I have since reverted back to those as well (in the C2300).

Lovin' the turntable and after several discussions with Clearaudio in Erlangen, Germany I went with a better cartridge last year which matchs up moreso with the tonearm and one that has a boron cantilever & 24k gold coils. The compliance numbers when computed for the tone arm puts the resonance frequency in the 11 hz range whereas the stock cartridge is not nearly as good as that.

This cartridge made all the diference in the world (but it should since it retails for 55% of a MCD500). Without making this too long, I'll stop.
