HDMI switch

Hello;

I am looking to get some suggestions for a HDMI switch. My SSP, a Lexicon MC-12B does not have HDMI inputs/outputs so what I have been doing the past few years is taking the HDMI from my devices directly to my tv for a video only feed and then using each devices optical or coax outputs to get the digital audio signals to my Lexicon. I currently have all 4 HDMI inputs in use on my tv and the problem I'm going to be facing in the next couple months when I add a Xbox One is no more tv inputs and I don't want to be swapping cables manually.

Are there any good quality switches on the market that won't degrade my signal and offer me say 4x1 capabilities although multiple outputs would be useful i.e. 4x2, etc.? Also are there switches that break off the audio from the digital thus offering an optical/coax output?

Most HDMI switches and splitters are junk, and usually don't work. I have tried at least a dozen. There are a select few that do work, but they are costly. I would have to go back and research what I'm now using.

Atlona made a nice one, but discontinued it.

I have used a Monoprice 4x4 matrix switch for the past few years and it has been excellent.

I don't like the term costly not for something like this especially seeing as the Xbox One is only worth $400. I suppose I would still go direct for 3 of the HDMI inputs on my tv and then make one be the shared input via the switch. Right now I have 2 inputs professionally calibrated, one for my Denon Blu-ray player and the other for my Xbox 360 so those would continue to be direct.

Monoprice would have to be a reasonable priced product I would think. Are the Monoprice units capable of passing everything under the HDMI 1.4 spec i.e. all audio and video resolutions? HDMI 2.0 would be ideal but I suspect that's asking to much at this point in time.

hmm, interesting. I was doing some poking around and to my surprise Kimber Kable has or perhaps had a unit called the HDSW4x1. It's a HDMI 1.3 unit. It's on their website so I assume it's still a current product. The unit was in the price sheet I have and lists for $299 which compared to a few other high end units which are video processors as well like the Lumagen Radiance units or the Meridian HD621 it's a steal.

I took a peek at Monoprice's website and found the switches. There are a lot of different models. I see a couple 4x4 switches. Quite a difference in prices, from $158 to over $300
