I see what you mean, but the photo is deceiving. The ground blade on the IEC connector measures 0.0000 ohm with my Fluke meter to chassis ground.

There are some IEC inlets that have an integrated "tab" that presses directly against the metal chassis. Therefore you don't see a wire but there is an electrical connection. Using an ohm meter to measure the resistance from the IEC ground pin to the metal chassis is the best method to determine continuity. And you don't need to disassemble the component to do this test.

I know I just breathed a sigh of relief as I'm interested in getting into this next year. Thanks for chiming in Caelin!

Yeah, I would move things around and see what you think. The reason I put the control unit on the Stillpoints is because the DAC unit itself has the clock subsystem in it, and clocks are notably very susceptible to vibration, so I put the Stillpoints under that unit for that reason.

Regarding my ER, yeah, sometimes I place the ER upside down, too. It all depends on how the streaming front end is set up, and the manner in which the Ethernet and USB cables are routed. I agree it's easier placing ER on the Tenderfeet when it's upside down. I think what I am going to do is order some Tenderfeet with the adhesive backing, and pull the stock rubber feet off, and stick the Tenderfeet on permanently.

As for the Holo May, I find it a nice DAC; it reminds me in many respects of a *super* Schiit Gungnir. I've had it here for over a year now, but, I found I really preferred my Lampizator Baltic 3 to the Holo May, so after I got about 400 hours or so of run-in on the May DAC, I went back to my Lampi B3. In my system. the Lampi B3 is just on another level from the Holo May KTE. The Holo May is very nice, but the Baltic 3 is...magical. I recently sold the Baltic 3 to a fellow AA'er, so I'm back to the May DAC until I can get a Lumin P-1 in-house. I found the Holo May KTE improved notably when I put it on the Stillpoints, which is why I mentioned it. Try it and see what you think. Cheers, Rob!

Stephen, did you use a ground cable with the May? If yes, what (on the May) did you connect the cable to? Notable difference?

Thanks

I suppose we all do this - upgrade and have to get rid of something (unless the dealer gives us credit).

But still, this doesn't seem like a customer friendly upgrade path, unless they are sponsoring trade-ins. FWIW, I've always found their factory upgrades as new models came out (Triton 1, to v2, to v3) very customer friendly, which is why I'm kinda scratching my head on this one.
I found out that Shunyata dealers have an Altaira "Dedicated Evaluation Kit" that they provide free of charge (maybe have to pay shipping both ways?) thereby customers can audition the Altaira unit and cables prior to purchasing. I don't know if Ivan has this available?
Another thing I was not aware of, the Alteria supports 12 ground connections per unit. You can connect both a banana and a spade to each post on the 6 posts per unit.

I was speaking with Alex at Uptone and he stated that the ground on the power supply is the proper ground and the extra ground on the unit is "redundant" as long as the power supply is grounded with the middle plug on the cord.
He said it was better to keep the ground isolated from the other components. They will be coming out with a new version of the EtherRegen that supports higher Gig speeds (everything else will be similar to the current unit) but they are having difficulty in receiving the chips. Also, they will be putting out a new power supply JS-4 in a couple months.
I am assuming that trying out the ground makes an improvement in the sound quality, then that is the way to go. YMMV

Yes, I used a Venom CGC with an RCA connector and connected it to the unused S/PDIF input.

With respect using the Shunyata GGC ground cables with an Altaira...everything I've tried (i.e., all interfaces I've connected to, etc.) provides an improvement.

Digital components, in particular benefit because, as it turns out, they tend to have a fair bit of noise on their ground-planes.

All I can say regarding EtherREGEN (and I have friends that have done this as well) is that connecting ER's dedicated ground terminal provides a notable improvement in audio quality when connecting to an Altaira, and to a somewhat lesser extent, the GP-NR terminal of a Shunyata power distributor. AFAIK, folk's mileage doesn't vary on this specific application.

With all due respect to Alex, whom I know personally fairly well, AFAIK, he doesn't have first-hand experience connecting ER's dedicated ground terminal to an Altaira.

"He said it was better to keep the ground isolated from the other components."

This is, in fact, exactly what Altaira does, if ER's ground terminal is the only device connected to a dedicated Altaira zone.

Exactly what he said, but the reason I mentioned it was for some of us who cannot afford to spend $10K on grounding. While I do not doubt for one second that Alteria will improve the SQ, it is not a definite requirement to purchase the system right away. I daisy chained my grounds until I demo the Altaria, which according to Alex is not the way he suggests, which is to electrically isolate the EtherRegen by using only the ground in the power supply. He did not say anything about using the ground post to improve the SQ.

There are dealers with "Demo Kits" available to try out the Alteria system. I was not aware of this until the audio show in Tampa last weekend.
That is why I said "YMMV" because while some may have small gains by manufacturing their own ground, some may have huge gains by purchasing the Shunyata system and vise-versa.
