Now 150000 Norwegian Kroner converts to 17253 USD. Probably more like it. Of course the import duties and VAT they pay over there accounts for a stiff price increase.
Retail prices in Europe are about double the retail prices in Japan.
Reasons:
In Japan Accuphase directly sells to the retailers, no wholesaler/distributor.
In Europe (and all other export markets) Accuphase sells to distributors, who take their margin ('water heater') and then sell to retailers, who also take their margin.
Well 'water heater' for the distributor may not be fully correct, since he has to pay the shipping costs (which greatly increased lately) and also has to establish a local service organization and keep some spare parts in stock.
In European countries the VAT is also higher than in Japan (in the EU anything between 19% and 25%; in Switzerland only 7.7%).
IMHO US retail prices are over the moon (may be also thanks to Trumps trade wars and the substantial increase of import duties related to it?)

Martin

P.S. The price calculation could look like this: (ex-factory price * currency exchange rate + shipping costs) *1.5 = (retailers price) *1.5 + VAT = retail price.
If I knew the ex-factory price, I could do a more detailed calculation.

Not sure if this is standard and I suspect it is not but the UK distributor buys the very expensive high end Accuphase stuff and lends it to dealers if a customer is keen to audition them. Dealers cannot afford to have everything in their shop. So the distributor in the UK really helps them.
