Japanese Hi Fi Adventure
I've been itching to do a pilgrimage to the electronics capital of the world.
What and where should one travel in order to see and listen to some of the best Music and Electronics in Japan? |

If I was in Tokyo I would do my best to visit the Shindo labs but I'm not sure if it is possible....

Akihabara is the electronics centre of Tokyo and there is so much computer and audio stuff around it will drive you mental! In one shop, alone, I saw pratically every decent headphone on sale today, on demo, each with a cd player or music server to use and even a chair to sit on. fantastic.
If you are looking for high end shops, I don't know of any specifically but get yourself a copy of Stereo Sound and there are loads inside. |

I really like to see some of the differences between luxury in different cultures. It is almost always awesome, and makes for some great note taking to introduce back here in the US. Thanks! |

Yep, Akihabara is the place. You can reach it via Hibiya Subway Line, JR Yamanote Line, JR Sobu Line, JR Keihin Tohoku Lines.
"For general items try Laox or Ishimaru. For computers go to T-zone (further along Chuo Dori in the direction of Ueno). These stores have English speaking staff and a wide range of international goods. Another is: Shinjuku - West Exit of the Station Many shops selling electronic equipment (including the head branch of Yodobashi Camera) are situated on the west side of Shinjuku Station. One of the largest recorded music store in the world & located at/within the Shibuya Shopping district. Bang & Olufsen: Harajuku is one of the Bang & Olufsen stores, a Danish brand of home entertainment equipment and telephones, which is along the up market and very fashionable Omotesando in Harajuku. Musical Instruments: Meida Dori Avenue in Ochanomizu (JR Chuo Line) is famous for musical instrument shops. The Yamaha music store in Ginza sells almost every musical instrument available and they also have live performances in their store. Have fun and you will be awestruck -- $100K+ speakers in a corner and you wonder how the heck did they get them in there in the first place. Just a mind blower. Bob
